Hello,
I'm scheduled for my 1st Stelara injection after my infusion 8 weeks ago. I was wondering if anyone has ever had to take an antibiotic while on Stelara. I'm going to see my pcp next week for a sebaceous cyst that may need to be opened up. So, I'm thinking that she may put me on an antibiotic afterwards. The nurse at the infusion center questioned if I have been on any new antibiotics. So I'm just wondering should I delay the the Stelara injection. I won't see my pcp until Monday.

I had a sebaceous cyst opened up several years ago (long before I started Stelara). It was done by a dermatologist and no oral antibiotics were needed.

If I were you I'd take the Stelara on time. The cyst isn't isn't needing urgent treatment is it?

The nurses at the infusion center always ask me if I have been on any new meds. I think it's just a standard question for you ... not related to Stelara specifically.

How is your UC doing?

I've been on antiobiotics while on various biologics. It shouldn't matter and I don't know why she asked you that.

I have been on several different antibiotics before while on biologics & it never made any difference & not once was I ever told to forego the biologic either.

I had my infusion this morning and the nurse asked about my meds as usual and then asked specifically if I was on antibiotics. I asked why she asked. She said it was because inflectra suppresses the immune system so it could delay healing if I had an infection. She said if I was on antibiotics they would have to get the ok from the doc that I could have the infusion. It's not about any interaction with antibiotics .. just concern that having the infusion while having an infection could delay healing.

No need for you to delay your Stelera but if you are concerned ask your doc. The rocky time you have had with meds I don't think it would be wise to delay your med just because it might take you a few days longer to heal.
