My colitis still had symptoms but I don’t know if it was due to active flare or scarring. It wasn’t super bad. I’m on day five of antibiotics and I’ve been to the bathroom like ten times since I woke up two hours ago. I went once during the night and countless times yesterday. Do you think this will settle down once I’m off the antibiotics? Have three doses left, I finish them tonight… I’m hoping this is a temporary reaction to the antibiotics and not my colitis getting worse.

I’ve also changed my diet tons like a week ago, before I was eating tons of unhealthy processed food, sugar, crisps biscuits cakes etc. Now I’m eating a lot healthier indeed in comparison, I don’t know if that’s affected anything.

Either way hope I feel better soon, let me know if you think it’s just a temporary antibiotic thing or something

What are you on antibiotics for? Is it a separate issue from UC?

I had a 9 month battle with MRSA back in 2019/2020 and had to do 5 rounds of antibiotics. 3-4 different kinds. I remember I had some slight cramping but for the most part was fine the entire time. Not even diarrhea. I took Culturelle as soon as I started them and stayed on it for about a month after. Culturelle has always been my saving grace so maybe try it if you haven’t yet. It really helped my diarrhea in this flare.

Yeah, I think getting back on some probiotics would be a good idea for me...

The antibiotics are for a separate issue. I must've been to the toilet 15 times since I woke up and I haven't been awake four hours yet. The only saving grace is that it's my last day on them. I'm hoping that it's a bad reaction to them and that once I come off them I will start to get better. And that it's not my colitis spinning completely out of control. Fingers crossed....

I've ordered some probiotics that should arrive in a couple of days, so that's a start of something that could potentially (albeit not definitely) help!

Yogurt...

I eat lots of yogurt to offset the antibiotics.

I’ve put myself on a low residue diet today and will do the same tomorrow. Probiotics are arriving tomorrow I think. I had my last dose of the antibiotics 24 hours ago, obviously what I don’t know yet is whether it was a temporary reaction to the antibiotics that will go away in the next couple of days or whether it’s triggered my colitis to be really aggressive. Or of course if it’s c diff or something else but will just see how the next few days go for now. I’ve still been to the toilet a lot today but I only finished the antibiotics yesterday so may not necessarily mean too much yet

How are you feeling now? If you're still feeling bad, I would request a c diff. test.

Still bad sad Yeah good idea… I do know about c diff. I almost hope it’s that bc a 10 day course of antibiotics for it might be better than realising I’m now in a really aggressive UC flare or whatever …

I’ll leave it another day or two then ask about that if I’m still bad. Thank you ❤️ It’s really not fun, I haven’t been anything like the same since those antibiotics so far

Sorry to hear. I'd definitely request the c diff test as soon as you can.

I had stool tests done today, this is a weird question but I did a steroid foam enema last night and my first stool this morning I used for the stool sample, afterwards I realised that maybe there was also steroid foam in that stool because it was my first stool after doing the foam the night before, do you think that this will affect the results?

I don't think so, no. I've done a lot of Rowasa enemas the night before stool samples and it never mattered. Glad you got the testing done.

C diff and some similar things, and cal protectin. My calprotectin was under 200 which they said was good and I tested negative for C diff. I still have symptoms, but I am back to how I was before the antibiotics now. The antibiotics trouble lasted just over a week after finishing the antibiotics I think, then things started slowing down and going back to how it was before the antibiotics. I don't know if the symptoms I still have (looseness, urgency) are due to active UC or if I'm in remission but the symptoms are caused by long term scarring of the bowel, I am hoping I will have a camera test sometime in the next couple months that should help show what's going on. Thank you for your help.
