Hi all: Gastro doc says Lymph colitis in remission. Stop taking mesalamine. So I did. For past couple of nights, I have woken up hourly. I wake up with my face and hands swollen. My feet and ankles are swollen during the day. Also have joint pain. I'm wondering if the mesalamine doesn't just help the inflammation in the stomach but also in the rest of the body? Internet doesn't address anything but the gut when it comes to mesalamine and inflammation.

Mesalamine is enteric-coated to release in the intestines so it shouldn't have much effect on the rest of the body. Have you reached out to your doctor? You could try restarting mesalamine and see what happens. Either way, I'd definitely see a doctor.

No problem. Wouldn't be a bad idea to get it checked out if it continues.

Hi...get checked regardless. It could be allergies, salt intake, fluid retention...but your GP should do some blood testing at the very least .
If your lymphocytic colitis is in remission, it's not wise to stop the mesalamine.

I saw another med website that does acknowledge that mesalamine helps with inflammation. May decide to go back on it (as recommended above) just to see if it makes a difference. Am taking 600mg of tylenol 3 times a day to try and get pain under control. Seems to help. Thank you all for giving me your advice. I really appreciate it.

Mesalamine helps with GI inflammation, but I've never had it improve my body pain. What mesalamine were you on? Sulfasalazine is usually used to help with body pain.

Keep us updated....you could consider Celebrex.
