Hi Everyone,
I’ve been on Entyvio since October 2022. It’s calmed down a lot of my UC, but has never worked 100 percent. This summer, things got worse — more urgency and diarrhea. I saw my GI last week and we agreed that I would increase the Entyvio to every 4 weeks and also take a short course of Entocort. I started the Entocort (9 mg) on Friday morning, but I haven’t seen much improvement yet. Does anyone know how fast this med works?
Right now I’m taking daily Imodium on top of the Entocort and I’m still having diarrhea. I also have an Entyvio infusion on Wed. I realize it’s only been a few days and I’m likely being impatient, it just seems like a lot of medicine to be swirling in my body and I’m wondering how quickly the Entocort will kick in.

Do you have crohns or UC? I'm asking because Entocort targets the ileum/ascending colon (i.e. the right side ) and is more used for crohns disease whereas Uceris (aka Cortiment in Canada/Europe) targets the entire colon and is more appropriate for UC. If your inflammation is worst on the left side of your colon (as is common in UC) then entocort won't do much....

For what it's worth I have been on cortiment 9mg and noticed a difference in 2 days but it never did enough to put me in remission.

I never notice anything with Entocort. It is just too mild of a drug and I have severe UC. I think I was on it for 2 weeks before I landed in the hospital on IV steroids.

Hi, Thanks for the responses!
I have UC. My GI and I agreed that I would start with Entocort because I had success with it in the past, although that was many years ago. Unfortunately, I'm having diarrhea again this morning and just took another Imodium. My infusion is tomorrow and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it works!

Iam sorry you are flaring.
Entocort, as I understand and as has been relayed to me by more than one GI, does not reach that well into the distal portion of the large intestine (rectosigmoid) which is where disease activity usually starts in UC and where it is hardest to treat.
So, my GI gave me one of two options: either go on Entocort orally plus prednisone enemas rectally. Or take Cortiment (which is a sustained release version of Entocort that is meant to be released more into the large bowel).
So, adding enemas of some sort may be beneficial if you go on the Entocort. Even mesalamine enemas if you tolerate them and they work for you (they didn't for me unfortunately and made my bleeding worse).

There is also a uceris (budenoside) foam. I always found it soothing. Although there were a few times I couldn’t retain it I found it helpful usually.

I had to move from Entyvio to Remicade. The several months of improvement on Entyvio was nice but not enough. We tried every 4 weeks and a short course of Prednisone. More frequent infusions help some people but you might not get immediate results. Let us know what happens.

Thanks so much! Before Entyvio, I was doing well on Humira—so I keep comparing the meds. I stopped Humira because I had side effects that weren’t manageable for me. Entocort thankfully kicked in today (after a week). Now I’m anxiously waiting for insurance to approve the 4 week infusions.
