Just sending you best wishes, Lka, because I recall your earlier post asking me about Colazal some time ago. I have heard, though, that U. Penn's IBD dept. is reliable so you most likely got a valid referral for surgical consult. I understand that it's scary, in any case. Did you ever have a GI nutritionist's consult about your ups/downs? Maybe an experienced pro staffer in that area could advise you on a more helpful and hopefully stabilizing diet to reduce your "down" episodes. RE use of staples in surgery: I had 30 to close a 5 1/2 inch trans-abdominal incision a while back and they didn't give me any problem; my surgeon just said to keep the area dry for 10 days, then she removed them 1 by 1 at office visit, put a light regular bandaid over each location, advised to continue keeping area dry for 1 week, then to remove the bandaids myself. That worked out fine. The staples didn't leave scars, just the laparoscope inserted places turned into purplish-pink spots. Glad that FlowersGal can advise you further on this issue. / Old Hat (40+ yrs with left-sided UC; in remission taking Colazal)
