Calprotectin dropping slowly......

I went to the VA GI Clinic today and was informed that my Calprotectin had dropped from 863 to 621.......still high but making progress. They did not change my meds usage or added anything new.....gave me a stool kit to take home and report back in a month. I still have urgency issues but not as often as before but still not making it on time to the toilet sometimes. I have not had any solid stools over the past 6 weeks. GI said I'm making progress but I'm not seeing much on the whole other than being told that inflammation is coming down and no blood was found either. Does this sound like normal recovery?

Everyone's recovery is a little different. I can't help with the calprotectin numbers (my numbers do not reflect severity or recovery-so we utilize symptoms)

Healing was initially very quick for me on Remicade, but flares/flare recovery now are more what you are describing. As long as there's no blood and improvement or a holding steady pattern I try to not to worry... But I am watchful and I do keep my doctor informed. We usually add Prednisone after 10 weeks for a couple of months and then start a taper.. and then we start over from there.

Wayne, perhaps it's time to discuss rectal meds with your dr, treat both ends. I know it's a turn off with lots of people, but once you get the hang of things it can be well worth it.

Have you tried Imodium for the loose stools? If not, I would sure try it.

My next gastro appt. is on Monday. I already submitted a stool sample so I will get another calprotectin update score revealed then. I know I'm improving as my stool is firm now and I have not needed to wear pins for over 2 months now. No Prednisone has been involved just XELJANZ 10 mg twice daily is getting the job done ok.....hope the trend continues in moving forward. Life is so much better and less stressful when not diving for the toilet 12x a day.
