Is My UC Mild?

I will chime in and say a center that treats IBD is of the utmost importance so if you have to travel or even do a long distance virtual appt, it is so worth it. I am at a university hospital with an IBD Clinic for my appts. I needed to be inpatient last spring and unfortunately the university hospital had a 5 days ER wait. I could not handle it so I went to another hospital (3 in total) before I found one with a bed available. The third hospital asked me why I was there because my disease was “out of their scope of practice.” I told them I was desperate for treatment and my doctor would coordinate care with them. They said that was fine since they have never treated anyone that has been on 4 biologics already. They were totally clueless on what meds to even start me on. So yeah. It is scary that so many GI doctors do not treat IBD but it is more common than not (at least here in Pittsburgh). My GI has Crohn’s himself and I think that is why he is the only doctor here that knows anything. I am always scared for the day he retires but will just go with someone else in his practice. I hope this hospital you picked does have a designated IBD clinic there.
