I got my period yesterday for the first time since December 2005. Here's a recap. My periods were like clockwork since I was 11 years. I never missed a one. Even when I went back on the pill after having my son they were regular again. Anyway I had a major flare and went on pred. in Dec. '05. That was my last period. Last night I came home and almost had a heartattack it scared me so bad. My first thought is great I'm bleeding rectally! Then I realized it was my period. No wonder I've been so bloated! I wonder why it decided to come back now after all that months???

Well it had to come back eventually right? :) Obviously your body is trying to right itself and as long as this is normal period meaning no severe cramps, hemmoraging, or blood clots then everything is fine I'm sure.

The bleeding is minimal compared to what I remember. I got by w/ a mini pad last night. I do have some cramping but nothing major. I have had classic PMS symptoms the last few days too. Now it all makes sense!!!

I think that your body is trying to heal itself. I used to be regular, and now, I get my period about every 3 months. Just lately, I have been getting it once a month like normal. I chalk it up to my body healing itself.

Wow, that's something!  I thought I was menopausal because I haven't had a period in over a year, but was on Prednisone a few times in 2006 (for 6-8 weeks each time), so maybe I'm not done yet!  Will have to talk to my gyno about this when I go for my next annual.  Thanks for the info!

Well, I had only had my period for about six months when I was hit with UC. In fact, I wondering if hitting puberty so hard and fast ( I went from a 5'1" flat chested little girl/ no period to a 5'5" young woman with C cups and a period in a short time (four months). It wasn't that long after that I had my first attack of UC that hospitalized me for over a month. And after getting UC, losing a lot of blood and 30 lbs. I stopped menstruating for close to a year.
Then it came back. And I was regular ever since, albeit, like many my UC was always worse at that time of the month.
Then when menopause starting hitting, my UC started decreasing. While i still have occasional flares, after finishing menopause I have had longer periods of remission and milder flares.

I still wonder if there is any hormonal connection to the disease for me.

this is very common with uc. It doesnt just have to do with the prednisone though, although it can contribute. The constant weight fluctuations and the problems with nutrition and UC often lead to irregularity. When your body gets closer to normal and stabilizes your period should become more normal.
