Colozal/Feel like I have a cold / Old Hat can you help with questions please?

Old Hat Hi

I feel a few things since I started taking colozal

1) Where I go pee out of, I get this urgency (small pain) like I'm going to pee my pants, but I don't. I feel like I have to pee a lot, I've been checked by urine test and no bladder infection. This seemed to have started after taking antibiotics.

2) I'm getting a sore throat for the last few days, lots of drainage (but I don't have a cold)

3) My jaw hurts to open my mouth wide-I notice this when I'm in a flare

This is my 6th week on colozal and the medication worked for about a week and now it seem ineffective. I took 7 pills yesterday. I have about 5 bm's a day. I took a rectal med this morniing. Canasa seems to help.

Does the inflamation start at the bottom )rectum and work it's way up or is it the left side working it's way down?

This UC is just a plain nuciance!

You may have a seasonal allergy. I get this, too-- especially in Sept.-Oct. Can you sleep at night? That's the complication my gastros have been concerned about. Canasa will likely calm your hemmie, which is mad at you because of the spicy food. That bothers ANYBODY with hemmies, not just IBD patients. Do you drink any Natural Cranberry juice? That should help relieve your peepee problem. Drink ca. 4 oz daily + lots of water. I started on Colazal gradually, 1 capsule 3 X daily, then 2 capsules X 3 etc. up to 9 per 24 hrs. My schedule is 8 AM, 7-8 PM, & 8 AM-- so that I can avoid taking it close to bedtime, when drinking lots of water is problematic. RE your jaw-- I occasionally get that , too. You can ask the dentist about it, just in case-- but it could be flare-related. By the way, there are lots of foods you can safely eat, not just chicken & veggies-- mainly beware of spices, fats, & heavy roughage like seeds when flaring. Boiled rice can help to reduce no. of bms daily. / Old Hat

Well now I've had more time to think about this, I may have a cold. I haven't had one in 3 years since getting UC (I don't know if it's b/c the immune system is stuck on overdrive) but I have all the symptoms of a cold.

I will do the natural cranberry and eat rice! I think my jaw is flare related, just like lower back. My rectal doctor said it best, UC is not life threating to most but over all it's just a big nuciance!

I remember one day (not being on medication a few months ago) and having a completely normal day. BM's, no aches or pain and I felt like no inflammation either! Why can one day be completely normal and the next day not be? Gosh, it's so confusing!

You're welcome! Hopefully, the Colazal will get you back in shape for water skiing by next season.  cool   My gastro thinks it's a big improvement over the older oral 5-ASAs, and this is a doctor who's been treating IBD patients for 25+ yrs. / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC; currently on 3 X 3 Colazal daily for July flare in descending colon, which is responding)

Hi Therearemiracles,

Sorry to hear you aren't up to par yet.  One thing about the bladder issues, I had that one time and if the cranberry juice irritates the bowel, go to the vitamin/health store and ask them for cranberry pills, thats what did the trick for me.  I am also having sinus issues now, strange it is almost seems like I'm getting a cold but never do.  I always keep track of your posts because we were diagnosed around the same time and I started Asacol and the same time you started Colazal.
