Hello Everyone
May I try and put a positive spin on this topic.
First of all every prescription comes with attached patient information about the medication and all of the side effects etc. Does no one read these? Also nurses do not prescribe, unless they are nurse practioners. So please be intune to the difference when blaming a nurse. A 4 year RN cannot and never has been able to write prescriptions. A nurse practioner may write scripts.
Second, we as patients are sometimes upset at the physician's office and may misunderstand what the Doctor tells you, I cannot imagine a physician saying Flagyl is an antidepressant. Perhaps we as patients are not advocating for ourselves but expecting the physician to do it all and then blaming them when we don't ask any questions about our medical treatment plan.
When we pick up our prescription we have the right to talk with pharmacist also and ask what class the med is, why it is prescribed and what side effects to expect?
I may have missed it but Flagyl can give you a green fuzzy tongue too, as my husband got that, and yuck to that side effect.
I just feel we are really blaming physicians and now nurses for mistakes that may not have been their errors but our own. Yes I am a nurse and proud of it. Yes I made mistakes, but admitted them and told the patient up front that I had. Patients are very understanding and forgiving when you just talk to them and tell the truth. No one ever told me I should be fired or lose my license.
We do not bash other professions on this site and all this bashing of the medical profession is negative when we are strifing for positivity, support and sharing. There is a polite way to share experiences without being judgemental.
Are not nurses and physicians allowed to be human beings too?
Just my 2 cents.
Respectfully
Kitt
