my doctor (actually the RN) totally gave me the wrong medication. i am not supposed to be on flagyl, i am supposed to be on something else. without this forum, i never would have known it was the wrong med!! you guys may have saved me from some very serious consequences. not only does this forum help with my mental health, it helps with my physical health as well. blessing to you all--i hope i can be of as much help to you!!

Hi Katie..wow, disconcerting indeed! Flagyl isn't totally questionable when prescribed for UC, however. Do you mean he was supposed to put you on an antidepressant (as per another posting)....did you call the doctor to enquire as to why you were on it? What did he give you now?

You're of more help to many than you probably realise....you actually have great insight and aren't afraid to ask questions or share your experiences.

Time for a new doc. I wouldn't have any faith in your present doc.

I don't believe the Flagyl will hurt you, and as Quincy says, many UCers have been on it for one thing or another. That said, the wrong med is the wrong med, and taking anything you don't need/aren't prescribed is stupid, at the very least, and certainly can be dangerous!

Patients have to be advocates in their own healthcare or have a person that can adovate for them. It's great that you discovered the error and is a good reminder that all of us should research the drugs we are being prescribed and the reasons why those drugs are being prescribed. With the advent of the internet there is no excuse for anyone not to do some quick research. The error in the Flagyl prescription will not harm, it's commonly prescribed for GI ailments.
