what to do with unused asacol

hello,
i have a big bottle of asacol thats half full.. i am never going to use it and i know its expensive. i was wondering if there was a place i could donate it, or someone i could send it to.

This is a good question..............I was wondering the same thing if by chance Asacol is stopped and a different medication is prescribed in its place for my husband. I know we are not supposed to give medicine to others for whom it was not prescribed but it does seem like a terrible waste to just discard when others could use it. Especially with the cost for some.

I know my pharmacy has a sign that says they cannot accept prescription meds once they have left the pharmacy. You could ask your GI but I'm guessing they will say the same thing.

i have been wonderign that too, i have a 90 day supply of colazal (minus two days) that i don't need now that i am "cured", lol. And i hate to throw it away, it's like a couple thousand dollars worth of meds.

It is against the law to share prescribed medications. This comes up every now and then here and I wish there was a simpler solution but as of right now, I know of no agency that takes prescriptions.

I discussed this with my husband last night - we have a brother in law that I forgot uses this so if we end up going to a different medication then we will share with him. It is really too bad when you absoluteley know and trust the source and know there is no tampering that it is not legal to do so. Especially if it is anUNopenED bottle.

This one in particular is so expensive for a lot of people who do not have good drug coverage picking up most of the cost. Some things just don't make sense in my opinion.

I totally agree that it doesn't make much sense to waste such an expensive medication but we are at the mercy of the government :(

I do not know the name of the agency here in Oklahoma, but our church takes medication that is donated by church members to the agency. I think that they have certain guidelines, it must be kept under lock and key etc.

It is a Southern Baptist Church.
I have taken my dads heart meds there - they are like $4.00 per pill.

if it is okay, I can post a link to our church web site and they have email address that you could ask them about the type of agency that it is donated to.
