OT question about laproscopic surgery

This question is for anyone who has had laproscopic surgery.  I had lap surgery yesterday among other procedures and I am just absolutely miserable!  I've have had lap in the past to drain a large ovarian cyst and I remember having difficulty with the air they inserted afterwards but not like what I'm experiencing now.  I feel like a mule kicked me in the ribs, especially the right side and I feel pretty sure that its from the air they inserted.  If you have had this happen to you, what did you do to alleviate it?  Did you just wait for it to abate?  Did you bend any certain way to help get rid of it?  When I lie down on my right side I get sharp stabbing pain in between my ribs.  I also had a tube inserted in my throat and I feel like I swallowed a sock and my neck is in horrible shape from the position they had it in during surgery (I feel like I have whiplash again!).  Not to mention the painful incisions in my belly button!

So any suggestion to help me get rid of this air would be very highly appreciated!  sad

Hi Sherry!  Great to hear you had the procedure done and are now at home recuperating.  Yeah, the gas isn't pleasant...although when I had tubal ligation done through lap-scope, I was quite focussed on the horrific symptoms of a severe bladder infection with bleeding too from the catheter.  devil   So, that made for a 10 day course of meds.

What exactly did the doc do in there?

I have absolutely NO idea what he did and what he didn't do. He went to talk to my hubby since I was under general anesethia but he did mention that everything looks ok (not exactly what I wanted to hear since it doesn't explain the excruciatingly painful periods) but I do have 2 ovarian cysts instead of one now but they're small. No idea if he got rid of them or not. I will find out what happened on the 24th. Thanks for the link Heather - I just might try the tea to see if it helps! Lord does it hurt!

I don't have any advice, but that sure sounds painful and I hope it starts feeling better soon!

Oh no! I am so sorry. Does a heating pad help at all? My mom always tells me to get out the heating pad no matter what the ailment:)

I say if it doesn't get better soon you should give the nurse a call atleast to run it by them. Hang in there!

Thanks ladies! Electronic hugs welcome! I have no idea how it works but the Peppermint tea really does help.....hmm go figure! I can breathe deep again anyway though my ribs are still sore and so is my throat but I know that will lessen in time.

The nurses at the hospital told me that I would be experiencing this and if it didn't go away in 72 hours to call them.

Oh and Heather, I was also told by the GYN that if he couldn't find anything that when we met next for the results that we were going pursue other avenues maybe even ovary removal but that is still up in the air at the moment. I'm not thinking of the future at the moment.....just trying to get pass this for now! Oh and yes, my fingers are working just fine! lol

I also forgot to mention that I had a D&C, laproscope and hystoscope or something like that. And believe it or not the D&C hardly hurts at all...just a little cramping.

Oh Sherry.............so sorry for your pain. Glad the peppermint tea gave you some relief. I don't particularly like pain medication and have a very low tolerance for them but I hope you have something if you really need it to allow you some relief and ability to rest. More hugs coming your way from here. Hope you wake up tomorrow and most of it is gone!!!

I'm sure it is obvious....what does OT represent when used in a forum heading? I see other abbreviations that kind of confuse me too. Is there a listing of these terms?

lol OT stands for Off Topic which means that the post is off topic of Uc.

Well after sleeping 12 hours and 2 cups of peppermint tea, I woke up this morning a different person. My neck and throat still hurts but the pain in my ribs are completely gone! whoo hooo! After the surgery, I used Darvocet and the crazy thing is at the hospital I had to keep telling these people that I couldn't have Motrin due to my Uc but they kept trying to give me a prescription for it. Both me and my hubby had to keep reminding them! I don't like narcotic pain relievers either because it constipates me just like the Darvacet did this time. I haven't used the bathroom in 3 days and wouldn't luck have it, I'm bleeding rectally again. But I sort of anticipated this because of the surgery. My Uc doesn't hurt or at least I don't think it does! lol Hard to tell with all the gassiness pain and what not I had done in there. But I'm just glad to be feeling better this morning!
