stainless toilet seat?

Hello everyone,

I have been having some issues lately, I've been on Prednisone and I'm back on nightly enemas.  These enemas will stain anything!  Which leads me to my question ...

I figure we ought to know plenty about toilets as a group.  Has anyone found a particular toilet seat that doesn't stain?  I mean bleach won't even get rid of these enema stains!

Sorry if it's off topic but I really need to know!  I can't let anyone who comes over near my bathroom now cause it looks so awful!

I don't know, but maybe you can try getting one of them toliet seats that come with the plastic around them and then just push a button and get new plastic and it will keep your toliet clean....I have seen them toliets seats in public toliets like target stores or just start wrapping your toliet seat and then only take off the wrapping when you have guests over.
The only other suggestion I can give, is buy two toliet seats, one you use and one for the visiting guests, and you will just have to switch out the seats.

the stains from colozal and rowasa stuff can be cleaned off the porcelain if you get at them immediately.. I've made it a habit just to wash off the toilet seat after every time I go.

i have had the same problem, but i think it is from the blood i pass. we get a purplish stain on the seat. i too try and clean it immediately but it is still pretty stained. We just get a new one every so often.

Hey Seahorse....I saw that set up at a casino in CT and thought it was great. I'd love to know what something like that would cost. I'm sure in the long run just cheaper to get toilet seats.

We all need to put our heads together and come up with an invention, coating or cleaner that would not allow this to happen....lol.

In addition to the meds I think the acidic properties in the D probably adds to the caustic backsplash. The plastic toilet seats are easier to keep up with than the wooden ones I have found. We had a nice plush cushiony one - that didn't work out all that well stain wise so I didn't go back to that type.

Stainless would get kind of cold I would imagine if you could find one like that.

tamtam - The purple-ish stains are from the asacol!

I have scrubbed the wooden seats with soft scrub (or bar keepers friend) and a scrub pad. That will get them clean - but it takes LOTS of elbow grease. Eventually, the paint wears off too :(

I just bought a plastic seat to see if I like that. Just need to install it...

What about buying a black or purple toilet and seat? Just change your bathroom to a little more of a retro look. :-)

I know what you mean! When I started taking 12 asacol a day my toilet started getting kind of redish purple from the stain in the capsule. My dad thought it was probably like a random bacteria or something so we bought a new toilet. Now we've gone through two and its sooo hard to get rid of the stains. The only thing I can think of is after every use take some cleaner and and a scrubie and scrub after every single use.

I have tried everything to get rid of those stains! Even steel wool didn't work for me. So, I am relegated to using only one bathroom in the house - the master bathroom. I don't use the guest bath downstairs or the guest bath upstairs. Our master bath seat looks absolutely disgusting, but thankfully, my husband knows it's clean, just stained, and he doesn't mind. :)

We have 3 toilets......one is DEFINITELY off limits as that is strictly for company. During the night when I am sleeping he uses the other one which is also a toilet for two adjoining guest rooms. I would really rather he not use that one at all also but he tries to clean up after each use which is a help. He doesn't want to wake me even though I tell him it is ok I don't mind.

When he was flaring so bad and needed to fly to whatever toilet had the least steps to get to I was really hating having 3 toilets to keep cleaning constantly. At least now it is much more manageable.

Our master bath toilet is called Mexican Sand which is a taupe type color which really helps. The others are bisque and almond and a pain to keep up with. I wish I had a darker color in the other two baths. He wasn't sick when we built this house two years ago -- just before all hell broke loose -- or I would have definitely gone with darker colors to camoflauge the problem.

So if you're replacing toilets the darker ones do make a difference as suggested above FYI.

I think I'm off to buy new plastic seats and I'll just try to limit myself to using the master bath. But hey, if someone ever gets around to inventing the stain-proof seat, let me know! You'd make a killing in this forum alone!

P. S. I laughed at the "retro" look idea - thanks for cheering me up, too!

Someone out there has the answer to this problem....I remember it coming up before.  I want to say that it was as simple as using Clorox wipes!!!  Who was it that had the answer???

I had this problem when I started flaring.  At the time we had the wooden toilet seats.  They are not the way to go.  They stained so easily and I scrubbed so hard that eventually the paint started coming off.  We replaced them with plastic and it so much better.  I also keep a tub of Clorox or Lysol wipes on the back of each toilet and wipe it down after every bad "episode".  that has worked out well.  My seats are white and I've had them several months now with no stains - and believe me I've given them a run for their money!

Try going in the toilet and not on the toilet? I imagine, Harpo, that they are talking about the BACK SIDE of the toilet seat, the one that gentlemen see when they use the facilities to urinate. When you have explosive diarrhea and/or you flush, you can splash the staining enema material back up against the down-in-place toilet seat.

My mom was visiting over Labor Day and my toilet seat is now stained. I wouldn't have thought of it or noticed it because there is no male in this house until a visitor of a young age used the facilities and the seat was up when I came into the room afterwards. It isn't bad staining, and I certainly don't blame my mom or anything stupid like that, but it is annoying that that happened in my fairly newly redone bathroom on the main floor. :-(

Unless you're a male or you're the one scrubbing the toilet, you probably aren't even aware of it.

I've taken to purchasing new toilet seats every two months or so. costs me less then about 20 bucks for two of em, and about 2 mintues to put on. :)

Sorry if this comes up twice.  I'm having some typing problems.

Not only does Asacol cause the purple staining on the underside of the toilet seat from back splashing but so does Lialda.  Lialda stains are not as intense as Asacol.  When flairing, I'm too fatigued to change the seat and I  don't care.  I get a new toilet seat every 6-10 months mainly so male company doesn't get freaked out!
