Pain on left side

Hello,

I have had a consistent pain on my left side for about the past 1 1/2 weeks.  A few days, it was so painful that running over bumps when I was driving even hurt and sneezing still kinda hurts.  A few days ago, it was more significant under my left rib (which would be my stomach) and I would have like muscle spasms around my rib cage and through my back.  Today, it is just pretty bad on my left side now under my rib cage so clearly the colon area and not so much in my back anymore/  That side is more swollen and, obviously, more tender.  My doctor had me taking 3 iron pills on an empty stomach for the past 2-3 months (which I have been doing) but yesterday I thought that maybe that was what was making my stomach hurt so bad so I stopped taking the iron all together - in fact, I stopped everything except my 9 asacol and my 10mg of prednisone.  This may just be how colitis feels.....I don't know.  Some days I have had what appears to be no blood but always "d" and today alittle more blood but never "just blood".  No more bm's (for the most part) just this annoying pain.  Should I be alarmed?  I kinda think no b/c it seems to be going away slowing but I wanted your feedback.  I have been out of town and this is my 1st opportunity to post.  I usually don't do the rowasa enemas but I was thinking that might help but then thought it may aggrevate it more....I am just not sure.

It's different for everyone, but I've been having pain on my left side almost every day for the past 1.5 years since I was diagnosed (pain goes all the way up the descending side).  Still trying to get it under control, and about to start Remicade within the next couple weeks.   Been pretty bad today, just took a pain pill to help so I can get to sleep.  You should still call you doctor just incase it's something else, just to be sure, but it sounds like the symptoms I have constantly, though it's usually worse in the morning through midday.

I agree that maybe you should call your doc to be on the safe side. Anytime there is a change in any symptom including pain and/or bleeding a doc should be consulted. I don't see any harm in starting the enemas but call your GI to make sure this is wise. I've had this for 15 years and in all that time, I can count on one hand in which I didn't have pain. I always have some sort of pinching pain on my left side, it's just a matter of degree. Sometimes when I'm coming out of flare or in an active flare, the pain is quite intense.

nono  Hi,i too think you should go and see your doctor again,i understand what you are saying when it comes to pain,but bleeding you need to get that checked yeah

Thanks for the feedback. I just didn't realize that pain was so prominent for many UCer's just all the time. For some reason, I thought it was more so with bm's etc. I have had UC now for like a year and half and this is my 1st experience like this. By the way, they have firm that I need to have my colon removed so I was alittle alarmed that it may be like toxic megacolon or something. My doctor said that he was concerned that it could happen based on my circumstances.

I had the under the left rib pain for a a year or two now..
