I HATE the feeling of my pants pressing against my belly which is often feeling gassy, crampy and bloated. I got the idea to try on maternity pants, which all have elastic waists, but still look stylish. I tried on a couple pairs at old navy and was in HEAVEN! Today was my first day wearing them to work and I felt great...I hope this helps someone!

I used to have a terrible time with my pants not fitting. I probably wouldn't look that great in maternity clothes, but have taken to buying bigger pants and always wearing a belt!

i cant buy bigger clothes as i have lost like 30 lbs and weigh next to nothing now. but i find it helps to buy your pants to fit around your hips not your waist. wear them low and have them hang from your hips. even with belt loosly fitted to just hold them up. not tight or anything.
then it just hangs under everything and doesnt bother the tummy or guts.
that is the way to go

Same here, I can't stand tight jeans or anything pressing on my gut, especially the left side. I wear either loose jeans around the waist or yoga pants. Plus I have many pajama pants for around the house.

Same here. And since I'm short-waisted, these fit me best anyway. I'm really liking the new empire waist tops, too, that hide abdominal bloating.

Oh yeah! I agree! I haven't had the confidence to wear maternity clothes though i have thought about
it many times! I have been buying clothes a size too big. The minute i get home i put on sweats. Anything pressing on my stomach is so uncomfortable!!!! Usually makes me run to the potty.

Maternity clothes-- Ha! During one of my early flares I bought a purple maternity dress with floral print & big white pique collar to (1) get pressure off my midsection + (2) cheer myself up. It was indeed comfortable, but every time I wore it men would stop me on the street to ask whether I had put in an order for a boy or a girl, or otherwise comment approvingly on my "pregnancy". That DID make me laugh on days when my UC was behaving. / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC [etc.])

Glad to hear someone can laugh. I find it depressing. A few months back, my Mom accused me of being pregnant and not informing her. My first though was, "Gee, do I really look that bloated?"

When I first flared, I bought low rise jeans. Nothing can sit on my belly when I flare - and I've come to like the lower rise jeans even when not flaring - except I have to find longer shirts and make sure not to shrink them to prevent showing underware or "plumber's butt" when bending over or leaning over.
I agree - sweats or pj pants around the house!

honestly, you would not believe how comfortable maternity jeans are...you cant tell that they are maternity at all. I was wearing them and my boyfriend said my new pants were "cute" we had a good laugh when i told him they were maternity pants, but why be uncomfortable?? I just ordered more from oldnavy online...ha

YES, thanks indeed, Poohbear! This could be the best pants advice since Kit Kat Baker recommended a while back to buy pants you really like/feel good wearing in 2 or 3 different sizes-- so as to fit into one or another of them on days when bloating expands your girth. / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC ... For me, it's elastic-waist pants and longer tops. It limits my choice somewhat, but worth it for the comfort.

I post on crohns but wanted to chime in that NY and Company sells womens professional STYLISH pants w/ an elastic waste band. Not like the old lady style elastic waste but more the kind you would have on a stylish skirt. They are really soft and feel like PJ pants too. I only have one pair so far but plan on buying more!!!

i am a HUGE fan of yoga/sports pants. there are some really nice looking ones that are very "stretchy" for those swollen belly days (of which i have many!)
