Evidently the people of Iceland have almost no incidents of UC. She chalks that up to a low meat high fish and vegetable diet. I would think there would be more to it than that - water, pollution, genetics...I am not sure. Has anyone else heard this?

According to this study in pubmed, Iceland had amongst the highest, not lowest, incidence of UC. It may just seem anecdotally low to this nurse, because the population of Iceland small is small.

Your doctor's nurse is wrong. According to a recent IBD textbook I looked over recently while waiting to see my gastro, epidemiological studies report high incidences of IBD in Iceland, Netherlands, & the Nordic countries, relative to total population. Ditto for Japan & Philippines, relative to other E. Asian countries. / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])
