Thanks everyone!!  Im new here and look forward to your responses.   I've had UC for about 7 years now and usually flare up about twice a year, with each flare up lasting maybe a couple of weeks.  Currently Im having a flare up that now has lasted almost a month, but it is not near as bad as my normal flare ups.. Im only having 2-3 loose stools each morning with minimal blood....just kinda concerned why im not in remission yet??   Thanks your responses are MUCH appreciated!   So what is your longest flare?

1.5 years and counting (though it's a mild flare at the moment)

My current flare about 5 months and coming out of it.........I hope!! Out of the 5 months 1 month of it on my scale of 1 to 10, 10 being horrible, it was a 10!!!

about 2 years, mild, no meds at this time. I understand about urgency. Althought, knock on wood I haven't had that in weeks nor the fear that goes with it.

My longest flare was 3 months. That is because I waited too long to see the doctor. Now I can tell when things start to slide downhill, and I get myself to the doctor at the first signs of a flare. I usally take Entocort or Prednisone for the flare, which put me into remission within days.

12 years for me - symptoms ranging from mild to severe. Call it 12 years of denial and ignorance.

I've been at Flare up for the last two months. Sucks too! It's a "moderate" inflammation but sure doesn't feel very moderate. The Prednisone, Sulfa and Enemas sure feel like they're pushing me back to remission.

when do you ask your doctor for prednisone? I took a 5 day pack, it did nothing for me. Is there a different kind of pred that works better?

been flaring for about 10-12 weeks. I'm coming out of it though, so I think,...............

Never heard of being on Prednisone for only 5 days during a flare...usually takes that long just for it to start working on me.

When I went to the doctor in town he gave me cipro and a z pack, I think is what they call it. 6pills, then 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 . Just curious, b/c it sounds like people take it and they out of a flare in no time.

maybe it was the cipro that helped me, I was on that for two weeks and but I had started the pred 3 weeks before that and the hydrocortisone 1 week before the cipro......I don't know what is helping me!!! I stopped the cipro a week ago and am still getting better so maybe the pred is helping, if so it took a month and a half!

6-9 months out of remission. Once you see blood, I know I'm in for a LONG ride. ;)

I know a few people that have been given 5 day prednisolone treatments. It is for mild symptoms.

A little over five years, from the fall of 2001 until the spring of 2006. Nothing would put me into remission.

3 years was my longest flare, mostly due to steroid dependency. This one is now at about 16 months.

I did get a big long remission in between though (about 5 years with a minor blip here or there)

that was never that effective for me.... i normally need a months worth of prednisone, usually starting at 40mg then taper over 30 days.

I have had only 2 flares. The first one lasted about 2 ¼ years and the current one is 2 ¾ years and counting. I had a 2 year remission in-between. If I had only 2-3 loose stools each morning with minimal blood, I would consider myself in remission.

I've been flaring since I got UC this past February...so I guess that's 9 months. Holy cow..I can't believe it has been that long. I only have mild inflammation now, with little symptoms - no blood, about 2-5 BMs/day..usually soft, but no D...which is not that bad, but I really want to have no inflammation and no symptoms. I've never been put on pred...only Asacol and Rowasa so far. My GI said he doesn't think I should take any "harder" drugs since I don't have much inflammation. I am wondering why it's taking me so long to get into remission.

this last flare has been the longest and it has been a little over a year long now and about a 9-10/10 on the horrible-bad-flare-pain scale the whole time.
just got out of a week in the hospital.

I started the Remicade in March, 2007 and was definitely in remission within 2 months. I've had no side effects except mild tiredness for about 12 hours after my infusion. My doctor did have me continue the Imuran to help keep me from developing an allergic reaction to the Remi.

All my flares last a minimum of 6 months.  My current flare is the worst ever - I have been flaring now for 4 years.

6 months - going loo20+times a day, anaemic, calcium defiency, lost30 lbs , hosptial ,blah blah blah you all know the story - up until then only a couple of weeks and 5 days of pred would sort me out !
