Hello Everyone,

  

     I Have a Question.  I've Had 3 Colonosopy In The Past 3 1/2 years. I Have To Go Back For A Sigmoidosopy On Wed. The 7th And I'm Scared. My ? Is, Does It Hurt? Could I Drive My Self? And I Stared Flaring For about 2 1/2 Weeks. I've Only Been In Remisson For 3 Weeks Since I've Gotten UC. I've Had It Since 7-04 And Now It Has Become Pan Colitis. I'm On 20mg Of Predisone, 8 Pills Of Asacol And 8 Of Belladonna(16.5mg) and 325mg Of Iron, Birth Control,20mg Of Lexapro. I Try To Eat Small Meals Most Of The Time. But It just Seems Like I can never Get It Under Control. Any HELP??? My Doctor Will Probley Put Me On MP6 Now, When I Go Back. But That Med. Really Scares Me Too. I'm Just So Drained. I Asked about Surgery But My Doctor Say NO. Not Until I Try MP6 & Remacaid. So I Don't Know Anymore. Thanks For listening.

if remember correctly, a sig, is done in the office, with no meds. It's not fun, but it doesn't really hurt. It did always make my tummy upset afterwards and give me a slight pain, but you should be able to drive yourself
If you want surgery and your dr wont' agree, see another dr. He really shouldn't be telling you you CANT have surgery, he may want you to try some other stuff, but it's ultimately your decision.

Thank You Summerstorm And I'm Going To Send My Records To A Couple Of Different Places. I Live In The Middle Of Now Where So It's Hard To Just Find A New Doctor. But Somethings Got To Change.:)

I just had a Sig on Oct. 3....its my second Sig. and my Ive had 5 Colonoscopies.  The sig is move uncomfortable because you are awake and the fill you intestine with air.  So its more a crampy thing.  Just be sure to ask if the doc can remove as much of the air as possible when he/she is done, because mine barely took out any of it and I was really crampy all the way home for my hour long drive and feeling nausious and had WICKED gas for a few hours after.  Its just alot easier if the doc removes it while they are in there.  The procedure is usually about 10 -15 minutes if that.  Not long.  All in all its just more annoying and uncomfortable.  In my opinion the prep is worse.

Are all these Colonoscopies and Sigs necessary? They make us anxious and make the GI's an awful lot of money. Easy money too.... it's sometimes hard to tell which is necessary and which is maybe just a "precautionary" money maker.

Hi happydays.....where exactly is your UC located....limited or throughout?

You could ask your doctor why you're not on any rectal meds...and if you haven't tried any 5ASA retention enemas, I would strongly suggest you start on them.

Also, are you having biopsies done during each scope?

LondonRed ~~~ I don't know. My doctor wants a sig done for a check-up to see if things are looking better. But i don't think it's it's getting better.

Quincy~~~ Yes, i'm having biopsies done & each year they get worst. I will ask about enemas. They had me on them for awhile and it would work but not for long. & my UC is throughout now. I just got that news 2 monthes ago. :(
