Lortab/Vicodin

Has anyone ever heard that Lortab/Vicodin (hydrocodone) is not recommended for people with UC??  I've just been prescribed Lortab for a boil that I just had drained.   Thought I remember hearing somewhere that it is contraindicated... Thanks

Narcotic pain relievers can cause constipation. That's about all I know about that subject!

Not a problem at all for me. Personally I think vicodin actually helps my symptoms.

im on hydrocodone oxycontins (endone in australia)
been on them since march.
the only problem is they are addictive and you have to wean off of them when you dont need them anymore.
i am in the process of weaning at the moment.
(except today, the pain was pretty bad)

they do cause constipation, so a stool softener is good to take if you take the pain meds regularly. NOT a laxative, just a stool softener.

Agree. When taking them post surgery etc. they make me feel as close to normal as I am going to get. Especially good in the am. Slow 1 or 2 slow the gut down so that I can be super productive.

Anyone have an Rx for vicodin as a UC maintenance drug?

Uc Dude, vicodin can be addicting in some people that is why many docs don't want you on them long term. When I was working at a medical clinic (I was not a medical professional), I seen sooooo many people trying to get their doctors to write scripts for their vicodin habit. They would even go to lengths of trying to steal the prescription pad. That is one habit that I never wish to have! Too bad they couldn't take the good stuff from vicodin and market it without the addictive quality huh?

I, personally don't care for what vicodin's do to me, but for pain, I like the darvocets. I've got d. & lots of pain, all over my bod, sometimes. It constipates most people, but brings me to normal. I only take them for the pain, not on regular dosing schedule. In fact, I get so worried about the addictive qualities of the narcotic, that I often go awhile in pain before taking one. But It works for the pain most of the time. And the break from d. is sooo nice. It takes fewer pills to eliminate pain when I take darvos, than any other pain reliever (2-3 darvos vs. 8-10 other pills a day at times). I am so glad I'm allergic to anaprox (base drug used to make naproxen, ie. aleve) I hear it's B.A.D. for us UCers. Just be very careful, vicodin's one of the worst to get addicted to!!!!
