too much gas

I have stopped taking Prednisone effective Monday. I have been having a lot of urges to go to the bathroom and it turns out that it is gas and mucus. The urges really come right after I eat anything. Sometimes I will have urges within 15 minutes of each other, and I go to the bathroom and it turns out to be nothing but gas.

In these phantom BMs, I still see a little blood every now and then. The majority of the time, the blood seems to be coming out in solid form (maybe it's trying to clot and it is trying to heal? ).I have been eating a lot of pasta recently and I've been wondering if it might be from the tomato sauce, so I'm going to not eat tomato sauce anymore for awhile.

I also have stated taking acidophilus and trying to eat more probiotics such as yogurt and Kraft Live Active cheese. Dairy really hasn't caused a problem for me in the past, so I don't think that is the problem but I'm willing to give lower my dairy intake.

I'm just wondering what do you guys think?

Every time I flare, I too have those empty urges with what appears to be clots of blood. I've often wondered what that means. Just wanted you to know that you are not alone.

pb4, How many grams are your fiber pills? I should try to take this route in helping my colon out. Thanks for your help as well.

Dairy's a prime offender, but so is gluten. Increased pasta intake could be part of the problem. Foods that gave you no problem in the past could easily be problems for you now, with a compromised digestion.

I take it in caplet form and it doesn't specify the amount per cap so I couldn't tell ya...I use Prodiem (widely available in Canada where I am) but it's similare to metamucil.

Steve....experience and asking a lot of questions of my doc is how I learned...as well as increasing rectal meds asap symptoms arise.

I think you should nix the dairy products such as yogurt and the cheese with live cultures and just use probiotics for a while. There are a few excellent ones to choose from, but some work better than others for us..really it can be trial and error. The reuteri is one that's a great start...they can be taken up to 3 times a day. I use Protec by Natural Factors...3 at night on an empty stomach, and once in a while I add the reuteri.

Please start on rectal meds....truly!

OMG! last night and this morning were horrible. i had gas the whole time and it was so painful and uncomfortable im just getting all upset. was doing so well with the normal bm's and no blood... guess what was in the toilet just a minute ago. blood. lots of it.
im hoping it is just from the big poo and all the gas in my colon and won't continue.
but man, this flare better not be coming back.
does pred just stop working?

i went into hospital on 15th -23rd. was on hydrocortisone injections 50mg x4 day. went home on 23rd started taking 50mg of pred. a day. been on it since. got 6 weeks total on it before taper. so 2 weeks to go then i go down to 40mg..
was put on imuran in hospital. about 5 days before i started the pred. i want to have a baby, decided since i was only 3 weeks in on the imuran, to stop it now before it was too late to stop it.
i use colifoam at night.

tried the salofalk enemas before but got all the side effects and couldnt hold it in. so i dont use those.

im also on mesalazine 2 500mg 2x a day.

ive used pred maybe 3-4 different times before during this year long flare, but low doses and they didnt do much. this seems to have been working except for the relapse here and there.

like just today, had a fully normal bm. but it hurt like hell of course. but not in the whole colon colitis sense. just when its on its way out. which is an improvement for sure.
the gas last night sucked, but i remember gas pains sucking even without a flare, so im just a little on the confused side as to whats going on.
i definitely know im going in the right direction.. was just wondering if anyone had the experience of pred working then all of a sudden just not working?
or i could just be paranoid and jumping the gun a little and expecting to heal quicker than i can...

who knows anymore.. its been sooooooooo long....
