Why do you take azathioprine at night?

I noticed most people on here say they take aza at the same time every night, usually close to bed time.  I just started the stuff and my GI didn't say anything about when to take it and I'm just wondering why most people say bed time.

I think it causes some people fatigue. I used to take mine in the morning and it didn't seem to be a problem.

It makes me a little nauseous. I eat dinner and then take it. Imuran builds up in our bodies so I don't think it matters when we take it.

I take mine in the morning with my breakfast.  It has never bothered my stomach or caused fatigue like some seem to get.  Probably just what works best for the individual.

I take mine at night, I just started two weeks ago, I tried nighttime because I was worried about nausea, but I am feeling really groggy in the morning and basically throughout the next day.

I just feel in a fuzz. It's really not cool. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately I was one of the minority that cannot take azathioprine. It raised my pancreas enzyme levels to over 1500 (normal is no more then about 300 or so) and i puked and shook from acute pancreatitus and was in intense pain for 4 days, barely able to keep water down. I was so dehydrated that my hands started to cramp up.

for me, never again.

  I feel kind of silly because I haven't been reading this forum lately (I've been busy) and now that I did, it just validated what's been going on with me and Imuran.  I started it like 2 weeks ago and I have been experiencing the same signs/symptoms people are talking about.  I have been really nauseous and ust recently very tired.  It took me a while to narrow it to the Imuran but I started taking it at bed or with a glass of milk and it seems better.  I should always know just to come here first! :)

I was not told any specific time to take it either. I take it at night as I was foggy in the am and I think it helps me sleep. Though lately I can sleep 10 hours and still be tired and I'm on approx 50mg of pred a day.....
