I think it helps me (but I also take other anti-inflammatories as well so in conjunction with the other things I take I feel improvement from it...I take omegas 3-6-9, I buy mine from puritans pride online, they have excellent sales all the time.

I take one cap with plenty of water to avoid fishy burps/heartburn, 3 times/day.

Sorry if this is off topic but someone just told me that if you freeze fish oil pills it helps eliminate fish burps.  Do you know if this is true?

I've read that you need to take enteric-coated fish oil pills to receive the benefit to your gut inflammation. If you're taking it for other benefits, then it probably doesn't matter.

I have lemon-flavored fish oil caplets and I've never had a fishy taste or fish burps with them.

Yes. Omega-3 supplementation has been repeatedly proven to reduce inflammation. Check out The New Eating Right for a Bad Gut for a full scientific explanation, controlled studies and dosage recommendations.

GO with the Lemon Flavored Caps, those are great and no fish breath or burps.

I bought the natures bounty 1000mg from CVS.. I hope I dont need the enteric coated ones.. *sigh* more money..

I've never heard the must-be-enteric-coated argument. Omega-3 is a natural anti-inflammatory, working on the immune system. I'd think the process is systemic, not something that works by coming into actual contact with the bowel walls.

I use fish oil and I switched to enteric coated fish oil (the Fishol ones that Vitamin Shop as well as Wholefoods sell) after I first saw reports that they absorb better, i.e. superior systemic absorption too. It pretty much eliminates the fish breath issue too. Anyway, I can't really say if it is helping, but it doesn't seem to hurt, and I figure it may have fringe benefits for combatting heart disease, etc.. I've been taking around 6 of them a day, usually with meals but sometimes on an empty stomach with water. They don't get to the colon as far as I know - they are designed to be released in the small intestine, and I reckon this is closer to the goal at least.

I also purchased the Fisol brand because I thought I needed eneric coated.  However, I started to go into a flare after that.  Don't know if there was a connection or not but for an experiment I put one in a glass of vinegar for a day and a half and it never dissolved!!!  Didn't even get soft.  I don't know if vinegar is comparable to stomach acid but to be on the safe side, I went back on the non-eneric coated ones from NOW.

I tried them but thought they were causing me to have diarrhea but I am not certain.  This fish burps were grossing me out also.

I saw some fish oil capsules at Costco, enteric-coated (although they don't look enteric-coated, to me! they look for gelatin-coated) for less than $20. More specifically, I remember it being 50 cents per capsule, and each capsule had 1 gram of blended fish oils: salmon and mackerel and sardine, I believe.

Princesa - AKB posted a study here last summer that was about the efficacy of fish oil in treating UC. The study showed no benefit of non-enteric-coated caps for UC issues. Here is the post on the study:https://www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=38&m=871271

I thought there were some studies showing enteric-coated caps DID help, but I can't find them.
