I had a heart cath done last week where they entered through my groin.  Besides have groin soreness for a few days, which I know is normal did anyone have any other side effects after?  That is the only side effect that I have seen.  I am having chest pains and heart palpitations.  If they didn't manipulate anything JUST EXPLORATORY should I be experiencing pressure and pain in my chest?  I know it is a question for the doctor but I wanted opinions other then the doctor. Please help!!!!!!!!!

hi  what did you have and did it help i am due to go next week have skipping and racing problems did you have chest pain and skipping before the test. thanks good luck

No I didn't have any skipping or racing problems before the cath. That is what is concerning me about having them now. Good luck I hope you get answers. I will write more later I have to run out the door.

Hi Chris. I had my fourth stent last week and I also felt soreness in my chest. The nurses told me this was normal and that makes sense because they did go into my heart, right? I mean, we should feel something. On the other hand, I had an angine attack yesterday on a four block walk...

I forgot one more thing. My groin soreness also swelled ever so slightly so I went in for a groin check and it seems I'd developed a hematoma. They did an ultasound and found it stable, which means that it will dissolve itself in about ten days. But sometimes it needs meds to repair, so do be vigilant. If you have any concerns see your doctor ASAP. Well, with heart stuff it's always ASAP, isn't it?

Hi Evergreen, thanks for your response. Fourth stent, your a trooper! Hope you are feeling better soon. I figure soreness is typical but I have had a fullness and heart palps. Also, I can feel even more tightness when I take a deep breath and wanted to make sure I wasn't developing a clot or infection. I did contact the doctor and he did say it was somewhat normal but to call right away if it turned to pain or if I was having shortness of breath. It is more of a discomfort then then anything. My leg has healed fine, I am 9 days out from the procedure now.

I really hope this is your last go around, take care of yourself.

Interesting to see all the posts re: caths.

I had one last week Wednesday the 16th and today noticed swelling at the point of entry next to my groin. It is raised, hard, feverish and very painful to the touch. Had an ultrasound today - they found nothing. They had thought it was a pseudo anyeurism (SP?) which means bleeding or blood clotting at the site. But couldn't find "anything." Gave me pain pills and sent me away cautioned to "take it easy for another week." Anyone have a clue what this raised/swollen 2.5 inch oblong thing might be?

I do not know what may be causing the swelling but would certainly follow up with your cardiologist if anything changes or it does not improve.



You have tagged on to a 2 year old thread so I am not sure you will get any responses from the members who have posted here in 2008.

There's a huge difference in artery closure techniques. For my first cath all they did was put pressure on the artery, resulting in a hematoma. The second time I had a different cath doc, who had a machine that puts a couple of stitches in the artery. No hematoma! Also less pain, able to walk sooner.

If I have to have another cath I will insist on closure with the stitches!
