cardiovascular issue new to me, help me understand

I was having chest pains and some breathing issues that came out of no where...I had been going to a gym for 5 months then suddenly I have issued...one test led to another, I passed the stress test, I had thallium put into my body and pictures of my heart taken, I had echo test done..all good, then I went for angiogram, that is the one I failed...99% blockage in left main artery.  Stent was put in Aug 5th.  I'm feeling better, some days I feel tired, other days everything is fine, some days I get cold fingers in right hand, and feel tingling sensation from elbow down..other days its not there.    I just don't understand any of this, I don't even know if what happened to me has a name.  Is this a form of heart disease?  am I a sick or healthy person...my cardiologist has me on the norm from what I read here...plavix, aspirin, lipitor along with methople..something like that not sure of the spelling...I have never been on meds in my life.  I am 50, normal weight and eat healthy, they say it's genetic, my dad had a heart attack at 37.  Am I sick?  or was this just a fluke? thanks!

Thank you for your advice and Selmer thanks for the book recommendation. I have been on the internet reading quite a bit. I have only met the cardio doctor once in his office for evaluation, then the morning of the procedure, then the morning after, then a week later in his office. All he basically said was you are as healthy as a horse, and that I could resume all normal activites. I've went back to work 10 days after the procedure, but I have yet to go back to the gym.
I know I was given a second chance, I don't take it lightly.

I plan on hanging around here for a while, it's very informative. I honestly believe that God just wasnt' ready for me yet, that is why he gave me so many signs! I'm glad I listened and didn't just ignore them. Had I not of been working out at the gym I might not of paid as much attention, but it had an effect on my work out. I couldn't do things that I had just been able to do three weeks ago!
I had quit smoking 7 years, 9 months ago. The doctors say had I not of quit when I did, it would have happened sooner and probably would of been worse....worse??? I ask, seems the next step would had been death! Did you go with an emotional state of being up and down after your attack? I am doing better but for a while I couldnt even look at my grandkids without crying and thinking that I had almost been taken from them.
Thanks for responding and making me feel better. It is over whelming. I know I am okay, but I have a horrible fear of returning to the gym. I do take a quarter of a mile walk to work, and one later to get back home..but other then that and walking around the house I am not being very active. My job is dog grooming...I pick up and carry any where from 5 to 50 pound dogs daily. I stand working on the dogs so it isn't like I am sitting all day. okay, I'm starting to babble now so I'm signing off..take care and hugs!

Selmer that is quite extreme. I know I can cut back on my meat, I've already done that. I am a member of sparkpeople, and have been eating healthy for some time. but give p meat completely?? I don't honestly believe I can do that. I will read, I will make changes but I have to live a happy life. If I read enough and decide to make the changes it would have to be a slow one. I quit cigarettes cold turkey, but I do not see myself quitting meat that way! This is all so overwhelming I am not ready or able to do the extreme right now, even if it means saving my life. I need to read. thanks for the guidance

Being able to quit smoking was fairly easy for me, because I "really wanted" to quit. So many people out there fail, because deep down there are just not ready. I had gone for a check up and my first internist doctor (who went back to teaching about 5 years ago) looked me square in the eye and he asked, "after everything you know about how bad cigarettes are and what they can do for you, WHY would you still smoke?" I didn't have an answer..but that question stated with me and I quit that week.
