Urgency v's lack of insurance..ADVICE PLEASE!

  In July I was being prepared for an EP Study, when I had a TIA / mini-stroke.  The Doctor refused to complete the EP study & test the TIA (I got it tested only recently by a different Doctor).  Since then my primary Dr. has got me an appointment this comming week with a Dr. (who previously refused to do it also!) about the EP & a possible Pacemaker/ICD.  So far DR's have implied it's my lack of insurance that's the problem, I only have emergency medicaid (I'm not a US citizen yet).  My health is getting consistantly/rapidly worse.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank-you

ugh ! not to sound negative about capitalist health care  but move to almost anywhere else in the world and it will be done. This is the thing which frightens me about the only developed country left which has no insurance "deductable = no insurance" no matter how you look at it .Health is not the same as a car insurance so what if it takes 40% GDP to run healthcare we are talking about life . anyhow all I can suggest is you apply to as many programs available as you can even if you have to go international .I hope others can make useful suggestions as to who these programs are . good luck stay well and avoid stress

Hi, Overactor.  I'm sorry to hear of your health troubles and that your health is getting progressively worse because of lack of health insurance coverage.  It is awful that about 50 million people in the most developed country in the world do not have health insurance coverage.  We can only hope that this will get better...

I would suggest that you do lots of research online.  There are many organizations that may be able to help pay your medical bills or at least guide you to others than can.  The American Heart Association, American Stroke Association and the Larry King Foundation are three that come to mind as good places to start.  Internet searches can provide you with a wealth of information.  Start contacting and applying to as many of these places as you can.  Try to make a compelling case as to why you need this treatment and how you can't get it because of lack of insurance coverage.  Oh, and that yeah, your life depends on it.

Thanks 2 u both for replying.  My mom & i moved from australia to the usa last year, to try to get medical help (i couldnt get help there).  Unfortunately, but understandably, we are not applicable for any health insurance - except emergency medicaid, which do we have! - because we are not US citizens yet.  2 hospitals in NY are giving us reduced clinic & medication fees, which we are greatfull for, but our income/finances are low so it's still difficult.  i know there will be the right answer somehow its just tough waiting....
