my husband has just been told that he has AF.  he lost consciousness while driving and had a wreck.  they are doing many tests to see if the AF is the reason for his black out.  has this happened to anyone else with AF?  he also had been having bad headaches for the past 2 weeks so we have a neurology consult this week.  his MRI, CAT scans, and X-Ray's have all come back normal.  he is 29 and were told that they may have to had a surgery that "burns a track in the heart."  does anybody know what that surgery is called?

Catheter ablation is an invasive procedure used to remove a faulty electrical pathway from the hearts of those who are prone to developing cardiac arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation.

I am glad all his other tests have come back normal. This procedure is done frequently and I know of other young adults that have had it.

I have just had a Pulmonary Vein Isolation procedure and I'd like to hear from anyone who had the excruciating pain in the groin like I had. Firstly, the young nurse put the needle (lure) in the side of my arm instead of the obvious vein in the crease of my arm. Then I went into procedure room where they got me all wired up, then 3 Doctors came in, put up a screen and proceeded to jab a large canula into my gorin. On the other side of me were the nurses and I guess anaesthetist who started the sedation into the needle in the side of my arm and I could feel something wet running down my arm, and all the while crying out in terrible agony. I was told to keep still and be calm. It was then found that the sedation was actually running down my arm and not into me. Another needle was put into the vein in the crease and by this time I was nearly passing out with the pain. Would love to hear from others what their procedure was like. Thankyou.

I'd be inclined to put some pressure on those involved. Just to make them darn uncomfortable. After all you experienced unnecessary pain and mental anguish as a result of their carelessness. I wouldn't bother w/suing them, but I would want to see them squirm a little just to "get even" a bit. You know the old saying: "I don't get mad, I get even".

Just last night a local nursing home came close to killing my neighbor's mother by giving her 3 meds that were NOT scripted for her when she began a panic attack for which she has long been scripted Xanax.

They gave her Respiradol, Remeron and Deseryl. (sp?) They've been checking her every 15 minutes and not letting her sleep. My neighbor understands pooh happens and the dispensing nurse was absolutely sick - and scared. My neighbor will take no action - but she is letting them "dangle" a bit, casually mentioning that she noticed that 5 people in that nursing home died last month (its a good size facility offering intensive nursing care thru assisted living), etc.

Thankyou FM for your reply. I agree, it is just not good enough. I think we are so privililiged to live in this time of great medical breakthroughs and technology that none of this should happen. There is everything to gain, but it seems right across the board people are becoming less than caring. I see documentaries of people looking after animals and they seem to get far more attention and care than we humans.We seem to be a number with a name, not a person with a name.
