What does atrial fibrillation feel like to you?

I have mitral valve prolapse PVC and PACS, twice i felt a vibration in the heart that lasted 3 seconds. can it be an atrial fibrillation? does atrial fibrillation make your heart vibrate? do you have the vibrating feeling?

Some patients describe afib as feeling like skipped heartbeats, followed by a thud and a speeding up or racing of the heart. Others describe it as an erratic heartbeat, strong heart palpitations, or simply a rapid heart rate. For still others, it feels like fluttering, butterflies, or even a flopping fish in the chest.

I would check in with your Dr. if you feel this vibration again just to be on the safe side.

I get the flopping fish feeling and weakness. My rapid heart beats are usually regular, just way too fast and can be measured with my home monitor.

I've had to go to the ER when I couldn't get it to stop using Valsalva maneuvers or coughing. Once I had my heart restarted with Adenosine. Not fun, but it had been racing at 165 bpm for 5 hours.

Like cars, it never acts up when you're on a monitor.

Usually I can trace my racing heart to eating a trigger food.

There are no specific symptoms for atrial fibrillation. Patients described it as heart palpitations, which are sensations of a racing, uncomfortable, irregular heartbeat or a flopping in your chest. At times there might be symptoms like shortness of breath, weakness, chest pain etc.

A heart in atrial fibrillation doesn't beat efficiently. It may not be able to pump enough blood out to your body with each heartbeat.

Some people with atrial fibrillation have no symptoms and are unaware of their condition until it's discovered during a physical examination. Those who do have atrial fibrillation symptoms may experience:

  • Palpitations, which are sensations of a racing, uncomfortable, irregular heartbeat or a flopping in your chest
  • Decreased blood pressure
  • Weakness
  • Lightheadedness
  • Confusion
  • Shortness of breath
  • Chest pain
