aeortic stenosis

Hi I'm about to undergo aeortic valve replacement at 50 years old.

My consultant want's to use carbon fibre valve with a lifetime of warfarin.

I am more inclined to go for pig valve and go for 10 to 15 as I am not happy to be on blood thinning

forever.

I like a beer or two, any advice from fellow drinkers as to whether warfarin will ruin my social life?

 

I'm preparing to have my replaced alsoin the next year or 2. I would also ask about the noise of the mechanical valve. They can bother a lot of peeps. I'm personally going tissue, but I also have Crohn's disease so blood thinners would be to much for me.

I new to this chat thing, not just here but anywhere. I am not one to share, especially with people I don’t know. However, my father, sister and nephew have Aortic Stenosis; my nephew had his natural valve replaced when he was a very young child; my father within the past year (65 yrs old); my sister was just diagnosed with it and she is in her mid 40’s. I also may have it but am reluctant to have it officially diagnosed because of where I work. Without divulging too much information, I work for a business which is very strict on your physical well being. With that being said, in the past few years I have been noticing when I run or do any lengthy strenuous exercise I get light headed to the point where I feel I may pass out, but I have passed out yet. It seems to be getting more frequent and the light headedness onsets more quickly than before. Also, when I am sitting down, sometimes, my chest feels like it is going to beat out of my chest, but it doesn’t have any pain or discomfort it’s just odd. I can be sitting perfectly still (in a recliner) and my heart is beating so hard that the chair starts to rock on its own. Is there a way to actually do a home test before going to see a doctor, I really can’t afford to lose my job. My family is the most important thing to me, but at the same time I am the only one working outside of the house bringing in an income.
