darryl and others, I have had your exact symptoms since 1998. I went to 4 cardio specialists, had 2 endoscopies, all of the GI work up, a 3 day probe, and nothing. My new Gastro Doc said it had to be Esophageal Spasms and put me on a relaxant that worked a little. Then HE suggested Nitrostat .4 sublingual. My heart guy said it was fine to take it if helped. When i get a strong pressure pain I take a nitro and it's gone in 60 seconds. When i get the killer heart type pain I take a nitro and it's gone in 45 seconds. After significant research I also went on Peppermint, candies, full power extract in water, capsules, and a larger capsule.I know can take all of the pressure pains away with peppermint and don't use the Nitro unless it's a bad one. After all of this all my Docs are now agreeing that i started with gerd, then Cardioesophageal reflex and then the esophageal spasms.A year ago i was dead in my tracks when the reflex or the spasms started and some lasted an hour or so. No more, the peppermint works 60% of the time and the Nitro works every time. I now carry both with me 24/7 and know no matter what occurs I can get immediate relief. But it's good to know that it is not my heart and never was. Good luck, Craig
