Teri,

It is Morton's Neuroma. It happens in women more than men. I bet the reason it happens because of heart sugery is because they make you wear those TED socks, barefooted, on those hard floors. Especially if you are flat footed, which I am. It has to do with the ball of the foot between the 3rd and 4th toe I think it was. Sometimes between the 2nd and 4th. It swells up and causes pressure on the nerve.

Oh yes, I do have a nice husband. One of the best. I don't know what I would do without him. He is my life support.

I hope this helps someone. I just looked up neuroma and found it. Interesting read.

Thank you, Lettie for that info!  I researched it as well after you gave it a name...though I didn't see anything where it was connected to heart surgery.

 

It seems they talked about it happening in more women that men, due to women wearing high heels and those pushing the toes together so tightly, I'm not so sure that Ted's cause that much tightness in that area?  Anyone?  I've worn them plenty of times after surgeries, but they always seemed to make my legs feel good. tongue

 

Though one thing you mentioned being flat-footed, seemed to be one of the things that helped to bring this on.  I have a dear friend that is flat-footed, and she has had more grief over the years, especially as we've gotten a tad? older. :)

 

I really appreciate you going back and looking that up for us-it's always helpful and interesting to learn these different things.

Hi Teri,

I noticed it didn't say anything about the surgery either. The TEDs socks though, tore me up. I had to wear them also, but when I got home I took them off and left them off. I felt like my circulation was being cut off with them. They put me in three different sizes and they still cut into me.

Anyway, the doctor in ER told me about the foot, but I didn't read it in the search either. Maybe they just didn't want to put it in there. LOL

Anyhow, I would be more than happy to look up anything for you. That is one thing that I have to be good at in my medical transcription.

I hope you had a nice weekend. I went outside today and enjoyed the beautiful weather we were finally having. It was so nice to be able to sit outside and enjoy the sun. Grandkids enjoyed having grandma out there watching them play too. I guess it seemed like granny was getting back to normal. LOL

Awww, Lettie, that was wonderful that you got that day outdoors and were able to share it with your grandchildren!! tongue

 

I can always use help here and anytime, especially if you've already gone through it, it really helps other people that are anticipating these procedures, or surgeries and can often relieve their minds of some of the worries they're having.

Hi Teri and everyone,

Thought I would drop in and see how everyone is doing. I also have a question. Do all of you take Coumadin? I had to take my Protime test Thursday and it jumped from 2.4 to 4 in a month. Have any of you had this problem? Do you know what causes it and what it does when it jumps like this? What does it do to you and what does it mean to your health? Does it mean that your blood is not so thin anymore and it can't flow like it should? I am just curious. I don't know what caused it because I haven't done anything different except walk more than I have in a month. But I don't think that would have caused it do you?

I appreciate any replys. I hope everyone is doing alright.

Re the Coumadin, I'm not on it currently but perhaps someone else here is?  Anyone??

Hi Teri,
Thanks for replying so quickly. How did you have the surgery and not get put on Coumadin? It is to thin the blood. They put me on it immediatly after I left the hospital. It hasn't been this high since I first started. The thing I don't understand is, when it was high before, my surgion had me take one 5 mg and then take the 2.5 mg. That brought it down. But my family doctor is having me take two 1 mg and one 2 mg, alternating them daily. I don't see how that is going to reduce it. They want my test to bebelow 3.

I appreciate the websites, I am going to check them out right now. There is so much to learn from this and the doctors don't seem to want to explain them. I guess they are afraid you will take their job. LOL

I am feeling very well though. The swelling has gone down in my foot and now all we have to do is find out what is causing me so much pain. It is worse when it is going to rain, which we have had quite a bit lately. I see the podiatrist again on May 5. I hope he will take x-rays this time, now that the swelling is down. I am walking a little more, except on the days I really hurt and then I keep my foot propped up all day.

Well I am going to go and check out those sites now. I will talk to you later.

I was already on Aspirin 325 mg. and Plavix 75 mg. so I really didn't need the coumadin.  I do have GERD and Heart Failure and they tell you not to take certain med.'s with this-and then the fact that I was already on the Aspirin.  Hope this helps to explain?

 

I very glad that the swelling has gone down, Lettie!  Please let us know what else that you find out-I'm sorry this problem has continue to plague you!

They put me on Aspirin 325 also. Plus I had GERD also, I took Prilosac for that. I don't understand this. I see it says not to take aspirin with the Coumadin, but they did it together. Both doctors know also. I wonder about these doctors sometimes. LOL I guess they know what they are doing, who am I to judge. LOL The surgeon started it. I have never had Plavix. Is that the same as Coumadin or for something else? I noticed though it says to watch eating beef. I eat beef but not very much. Maybe once or twice a week. Other than that, not much meat. I mostly eat fruit and vegetables, which I totally love.

I will be glad when this foot heals up. It has plagued me long enough. LOL My husband seems to think it is because of what they did to me in surgery. They froze me to keep me from dying while in surgery. Did they do that to you? It's not exactly freezing, it is like hail I think, but they call it freezing you. Anyway, my husband thinks it might be because of that. If so, then I may have it the rest of my life. That sounds like fun doesn't it? LOL My doctor doesn't like me on Vicodin though. I try to take as much pain as I can, but you know how that is? LOL Me and pain just don't get along. But like I said, when it is a warm, sunny day, I feel really good and rainy days just bring me down with more pain. I just don't feel like doing anything. I also start thinking, why did God keep me here and all those things. Feeling like everyone is tired of helping me, which I know better. If they did mind, then why do they do it with out hesitation. You know how it is. I would like to do things for myself though. I have started doing a few things. I try to keep things picked up out of the floor, make the bed (not real good, but tolerable), fill up ice trays, clean the bathrooms a little bit, things like that. Of course, hubby tells me to leave things alone, but when he is at work who doesn't listen. LOL He is afraid I will fall while is gone. He is getting to be a worrywart. Bless his heart.

Geez, I didn't mean to write you a story. LOL I just haven't talked to you in so long. Of course, that is my fault, I guess I need to come around more often. LOL

That is why that site looked familiar when I went to it a second time. LOL I didn't see the numbers the first time, so I thought it was different. LOL Gosh, I feel so dingy. LOL

I hope you also know that these sites will help me on my medical transcription also. LOL I have been trying to call my doctor this morning to get some answers but all I get right now is the machine and I don't want them calling me back, I want to talk now. I don't like them scaring me like this and not explaining these things. You know what I mean. I told my father about it and he told me to be sure and tell them I ate some buffalo meat. It is suppose to be good for you , but he said it might just change things though. So I am going to tell them and hope that is it. I haven't changed anything else except for getting outside more and walking around. These things are so scary when you don't know anything about them. You know? I hope you had a good weekend. I did. I spent most of Sunday with my husband and did some sewing with my grandchildren. I really enjoyed it.

Sometimes it is hard to have a sense of humor, but I do my best. I had the nurses in the hospital laughing all the time. It helps me in not thinking about your problem. Plus, sometimes I joke about it too. I can't stand to be down, but I do have those days. It seems like on those days I can have a sense of humor too. LOL I think that is because I know God is with me and it doesn't do any good to think bad thoughts. Always think of the good because there is always someone out there worse off than you are.

I am always glad I can come here and talk to you. I am glad I found this site. You don't know, even if you don't know the answer, how much you help me. I like friends like that.

Sorry it took me so long to get back with you, but I am trying to set everything up on a new computer. It is an XP and I am used to a Windows 98. What a difference. I hate change, but I have to go with the times, you know what I mean. LOL

The podiatrist didn't take x-rays again, but he put me on Neurontin for the pain and he put a little patch in my shoe that is supposed to help pull the bones apart. I am walking better with the patch and I am not sure but I think the Neurontin is helping with the pain. It rained yesterday and I didn't have as much pain as I usually have when it is going to rain. The other days that it didn't rain, I only had to take my Vicodin twice a day instead of four. So I think there is some improvement. I go back to see him in a month. Maybe it won't be long till I will be able to stand longer. I hope anyway.

So how was your mothers day. I had a beautiful one. The weather even cooperated. I spent most of the weekend outside. Hardly even got on the computer. My grandson helped me plant some flowers and clean out some weeds. I do a little each weekend.

Lettie, how wonderful~you are feeling better?!  WooHoo!!  I'm really happy for you-when your feet hurt it's really the pits-after all that is what we stand on all day.  I will wish for you that each day it gets better and better!!

 

Neurontin has been turning into a drug that I see used a lot these days and hopefully this will be what helps you!

You know, as many times as I have talked to you, you sound like a wonderful lady. I would like to meet you some day. I will keep in touch. I wish the others would also. I love to talk to people. Believe it or not I used to be shy, till I became a waitress. LOL Then I just let my hair down and let the voice go. LOL My mom was a talker, you couldn't get a word in with her. I miss her. It will be 5 years come May 22 that she has been gone. She was always someone I could talk to. But isn't all mothers? LOL It's almost like losing a friend. I keep a good eye on my dad now. He just lives down the road and if we don't see him outside or he doesn't come down, we will go down and make sure he is alright. He will be 72 this year and I do wish he would find someone. Even if it was for companionship. He sees 2 ladies, but they don't go out or anything. They are just friends. He would like to marry one of them though, but she is not ready for marriage. Her husband has been dead now for 6 years.

I type Neurontin in my reports a lot, that is how I heard of it. It must be very popular with the doctors.

Hi Lettie! :)

It's used a lot for nerve pain. My Dad was on it for neuropathy in his extremities. My Mom was on it for a long while, too. I understand the loss of your Mom, I lost my Mom this past February and then my Dad in March.
I wouldn't push your Dad, :) he sounds like he's doing just fine! lol
