IRREGULAR BEATS OCCURING WHILE LAYING ON STOMACH

Hi Everyone,

  In the last year or so, I sometimes get some irrular beats, before sleep while laying on my stomach (how i always sleep).  This scares the wits outta me, 'cause THESE beats are different from the OTHERS i've had before, in that--they seem to take my breath away!

  Has anyone else had ANTYHING like this?     I just had my follow up last week w my cardiologist after my stress EKG - with isotope (results-pefect---my arteries are clear! I KNEW that--again, my "plumbing" is fine---the electricity is screwed up!   And, my echocardiogram--excellent--heart size normal, ventricles..normal--wall thickness normal--VERY good Ejection fraction--69%.

  My cardio- says i do NOT need any ablation--as my irregular beats are nothing serious.       Yea, but they're scary as hell!   

SO--has ANYONE here had these irregular beats or SVT episodes while in your stomach...before sleep that just TAKES YOUR BREATH AWAY?     I DO hope i hear from some others that do!    That would really help me!   Thanks--Robert

Robert, I have gotten the sensations you speak of, BUT they are not irregular beats. (embarrasingly.. it's gas...lol). They do take my breath away for a second.
Have they caught these on a Holter monitor? Or is your doc just going on your description?

  While i appreciate your time in responding to my post, please look at my question!     I'm asking about getting irregular heart.. beats while lying down!   I'm NOT asking about GAS!     My question was asked in a serious way, as most inquiries on this forum are!   I'm baffled by a response that is so totally unrelated!   confused          

  I am NOT having any kind of gas...but irregular beats where I can feel the arrythmia & it takes my breath away.

 I'd rather get NO response, than a rather "comical" one.   Irregular beats are irregular beats...NOT ....gas!   I know the difference.   These arrythmias are scary & frightening--as those who get them here can attest!

I was hoping to get some responses--but --at least if people have not gotten them, fine---but, honestly, try to keep the response directly related to the question.

I think she was honestly trying to help.  Back when I was having my SVT attacks rather often I had a really bad gas pocket one day that scared me.  I had this horrific sharp pain in my rib cage and was sure it was my heart (even though it was a little low for that).  Turned out to just be gas.  You get so in tune to your body when you're having heart problems though and every little thing can worry you.  I felt like a hypochondriac half the time. 

My irregular beats were worse when I was lying on my side on the couch for long periods of time, so not sure about the lying on your stomach problem.  I slept on my stomach throughout the time I was dealing with my SVT and it never made it any worse.

----When i get my irregular beats--usually i'm standing or sitting...AND...laying on my stomach relieves it...that's why i became alarmed when it occured laying on my stomach (tho it IS rare!)---Your observation about laying on your side is correct.    Many people w this problem ge.t it wose while laying on their left side.

Yeah, I get the irregular beats. They are normally called premature bearts. I get the ones from the atrium-PAC and sometimes from the ventricular-PVC. Some are light and fairly non-bothersome. Some are very hard like a hand grenade went off in my chest and DO take my breath away. I truly hate those the most but after 5+ years I am doing a better job of ignoring them. I might get that sensation while laying on my stomach or my side or bending down or twisting or while doing none of the above. If I am having a bad time with them, I will NOT lay on my stomach because I will always get more. Laying on my stomach will never stop them for me. In fact laying on my stomach can cause my heart to start having a flutter sensation if I am having alot of irregular beats and I HATE the flutter sensation.

If I do ignore them, I have fewer. If I don't ignore them, I get more and they scare me and really make my life miserable. In the past I have really let them cripple me by avoiding EVERYTHING I thougt MIGHT trigger them. I've come to find out that I just can't pinpoint my trigger! What might trigger them one time doesn't do squat the next time and I am tired of avoiding the best things in life. (I do limit my caffeine though.)  So I quess my cardiologist is right when he says that they tend to wax and wane over time unless you obsess over them.

Of course I can understand why people do this and I understand why they think they will die because of them. I just wish I could help others truly belief that the irregular beats are nothing more than a nuisance. Also I wish I had not wasted so much of my last 5+ years letting them stop me from doing fun things with my little girl and husband. I became a virtual hermit in my house living in fear! NO MORE though. I just ignore them and go on! Life is better and I am not having so many of them right now.

I would like to address your remarks to Sarah. She is absolutly right! That sensation can also come from gas or a bad gallbladder. I should know because I have had experience with that before my gallbladder was removed. I knew that I was having terrible premature beats. I have had them before, they had been documented on an EKG and I knew what they felt like and it didn't feel like gas BUT I WAS WRONG. Further testing revealed that there were no premature beats during that episode and my gallbladder was bad. I was astonished!

Hopes, you are an inspiration when you write. I too have missed out on tons of fun because I thought Iwas going to die! Thank you for your insight.

Well, Wotan, thank you for the lashing. I'll just keep my thoughts to myself in the future. I did not see it as "comical".. I was terrified when I felt them myself.

I have the same thing! I have confirmed pvcs and can go all day without one single palpitation, lay on my stomach in bed and get a runs of them that jolts me awake. I have to turn to my side or back or they will continue to come. I have worn a 24 hour holter and had a run of nsvt in my sleep. I'm not sure if that's what is happening when I lay on my stomach r what. I am seeing my cardiologist again soon for a follow up and am going to discuss this problem with him.

I have that too, also genetic tacchycardia. Have you checked into the vagu nerve and its role in premature beats? Very interesting..I would like to see a specialist about mine. I think they are related. It's no fun for sure.
