Seven years ago my cardiologist suggested I take a baby aspirin each day (mini heart attack he said). However, now that I am 78 years old I wonder if I should continue to take a baby aspirin.
I've read in recent AARP Bulletin that baby aspirin should not be taken by seniors over 70 years of age.
My doctor is older now and very grouchy and I don't want to contact him at this time but I wondered if anyone else (male) around my age is taking a baby aspirin daily? Or has stopped taking the baby aspirin daily?

Hi Prayerful, Welcome to HW. I hate to give you any advice in this area as really your cardiologist is the best person to ask. If you cant seek his advice perhaps your PCP can be of help to you. Otherwise you may check into a new cardiologist. If you feel you cant approach him regarding this question then I would look to a new doctor that you can. It's your body and health in the end, you shouldn't be worried about upsetting or bothering an old grumpy doctor. In my opinion only....Good luck!!

Hi Prayerful, well what a coincidence I too had a heart attack 7 years ago followed by 6 bypasses through open heart surgery and I am also 78 years old.
I have been taking the low dose aspirin ever since as recommended by my cardiologist and my current GP who also says to keep taking it.
I am feeling great for the most part, so I plan to carry on taking it. I think I have already got 7 extra years out of life so theres nothing to lose ....good luck

I presume you are taking the baby aspirin every night?

Well, I can tell you that my husband had stints in 3 arteries done in 2009. He still takes an aspirin, but takes the low-dosage enteric coated form rather than regular baby aspirin. It helps protect his stomach.

Hello and Welcome,

I take a coated baby aspirin for with my other meds and At the advise of my doctor. I hope you can find some peace of mind with your medicines and with your doctors. I have had doctors that treat me very well, and others that were haughty. Best to you.

I take the Ecotrin 81 mg low strength Safety Coated. It is supposed to be #1 Cardiologist recommended.

I presume you are all taking your's every night?


P.S. I am not receiving email notifications of replies even though I have checked "Notify me of reply postings  by e-mail." Don't know what is wrong?

Prayerful, some others have said they were not getting the email notifications and then suddenly they were. I don't know if there's a glitch in the site. I'm sorry.

Thanks Lanie. I changed my email from AOL to Hotmail and now I seem to be receiving the email notices. Maybe others might need to do the same thing.

Just repeating my post from above. I don't see any post number to refer to and thought posting it again here would allow others to see it and possibly answer if they are taking it every night also....

I have not had any heart problems (knock on wood) but I am 65 and have diabetes so my primary doctor suggested that I take a 'baby' aspirin at night when I go to bed. I found this article that talks about it, too, but I do think you should ask your doctor who told you to take aspirin daily.

Lanie, my cardiologist did say to take one "baby" aspirin at nighttime.
