To all my dear parents out there!

My 11 year old daughter had her second ambulation at Stanford Hospital . The doctor came out fast and with good news . They were 99.9% sure they had fixed my daughters SVT. Less than 30 days she called me saying "Mom I'm having tachycardia please come now! " and hung up on me . It was the worst tachy I have ever seen her go through. They gave her 3 shots that stop her heart and restarts it and all 3 shots were unsuccessful they then rushed her to ICU in children's hospital . I'm here now with her . They were gave her another medicine which took 30 mins to take and on top of that they gave her atenol. They have her on 75 mg of atenol. They ran lab work to see if any damage was done to her heart after going 250, 220 , 200, 190 for 3 hours. They don't know what is wrong. I feel so bad for my daughter. She never cried during the tachy she only cried when it finally stop beating out of her chest. Does anyone have any similar stories ? I'm hoping someone has a 11 year old daughter that has a winning ending. I'm looking for any hope.

hi MM. not a parent, but I am a big brother, if that counts. hopefully the tachy will never get to that again. she a strong kid. and wise to call. I have been in similar dire straits, albeit I am nearly 43!!! the important thing is that she is being well cared for, and safe. I send many healing thoughts to you and your daughter. I am sure others will come on with assistance. I was around and just wanted to say that I am thinking of you both. keep strong. she is a strong kid.

I get SVT from a chemical called sulfite. It's had me in the hospital several times, once for ablation, once for a heart attack. I'm allergic/sensitive to foods that have this in them naturally as well as when it's added as a preservative in foods and medicines, or as a bleaching agent. You can look up more stories by using the search box at the top of the page.

To control it myself I learned to first do Valsalva maneuver, then Inderal (prescribed by my cardilogist), and if I can't get it stopped I end up in the hospital. Atenolol takes too long. Inderal works faster, but then I take Atenolol if it keeps on because Inderal doesn't last very long.

Your daughter probably has a different cause, but it's free to keep a notebook (food journal) on the kitchen counter and write down everything she eats or drinks, medicines, and any reactions, especially within half an hour to 2 hours.

I also get this reaction from Albuterol, although it's delayed up to 8 hours.

I sympathize with your daughter because it's not fun getting those shots.

Hello there. I am not a parent, but I do know exactly what you're daughter is going through. I am 22 years old, and I am going through the exact same thing as she is. As I can not imagine going through it at the age that she is at, I can say that I understand it all completely. A little too well. I have been sick for the past 2 years, visited numerous doctors but get no answers. I have been told that there is nothing wrong with me. That it's just stress and anxiety and I used to walk out of the doctor's office disappointed and disheartened. Why wouldn't anybody listen to me? I have had this heart condition for awhile and because of it, I suffer from constant fainting, fast heart rate, weakness, stopping of the heart, and shortness of breath.
Last Thursday, I had my first heart ablation procedure with failed attempt. I was awake for the whole thing and I remember everything. In all honesty-it was the worst thing that I have ever gone through in my life. Very traumatic. (I hope that they put your daughter to sleep while they did this procedure on her) They sped up my heart rate from 80 bpm to 250bpm in a matter of seconds. When they tried going into my second lower quadrant of my heart, the catheter was blocked. (which makes no sense since my echocardiogram came back clear and normal just two weeks prior to the procedure) when the doctor came to my room after recovery, he told me that it was a failed procedure. That I went into A-Fib twice but they couldn't get the SVT rhythm that he had been trying for. He didn't tell me much after that. He told me to come back in a month from now and to discuss further treatment, which in my case, will probably be a pace maker. (I hope your daughter will be cured from SVT before the discussion of a PM is even discussed!)
That is just a piece of what I am going through. I get it. It sucks and I understand completely what both you and your daughter are going through. Do not give up. and don't take "no" for an answer. You got this mamma. And so does she. She is a strong young girl! Prayers for you both

Thank you all for all the encourging words, thank you so much! shes here sleeping on my shoulder, im feeling her heart and her breathing i couldn't ask for anything else! The doctors want to send her back to school and hope for the best.Which worries me . How about the weight of her backpack isn't to heavy for her? The stress from her peers? Its her first week of middle school. I can't image going back to work the thought alone scares me to death i have to be by her all the time or else I have panic attacks that are really hard to work though. I plan on volunteering at her school some how hopefully they will allow me to come everyday. I would love to talk to a mother or father that is out there! Please reply if your out there! I would feel so much at peace to talk to another family that is going through this hard time just to share experiences. I appreicate all feed back I honestly am so thankful for this wedsite! Hello again. I understand the stress and anxiety that you have with sending your daughter back to school. I can also understand if you're daughter is nervous too. I encourage you to have faith and to check in to volunteering at your daughter's school, if you believe that is what you need to do as a mother. As far as her heart goes-again, have faith that the doctors are trying the best they can. I am fighting this exact same battle myself, and it is very challenging and causes me to have impatience. I (and you as well) just want answers and healing. But stay strong for her and remind her (as I know you are!) that you are right there with her. I do hope things get better for you and your daughter. Prayers heading your way!

yeah, many healing thoughts from the turtle. getting back into a routine will actually be good for her. maybe a talk at school to the little ones may help.
