AAA, Accending Aorta Anuerisum

Greetings: First time on the block. Getting right to the point, I am 73, after getting a MRI, for possible infection in lungs from ER VA doctor, found out I had AAA on the main Aorta. Upon seeing the heart surgeon, and telling me about the AAA I had. Informed me and my wife, surgery will be necessary. And through the procedure of the surgery and what I need to know. This caught my wife and I blindsided and not sure what to feel. So now I am waiting for app. to get more picture in side my heart, so the doctor can move forward if no other complications. And also will find out what hospital to send me for the surgery. Duke or Wake Forest, not know at this time. But as a veteran, at Asheville VA medical center, we all have to go through loops and approvals and setting up with all needed stepping stones. So what I am seeking for my self, information about what I can except from day one, awaiting surgery, the surgery itself, recovery, additional information into surgery and after. And down time for recovery at the hospital and then down time recovery at home, and then therapy. Has any one been through this kind of surgery, or knows those that have, and made it, or still recovering, insides of going through after surgery. And some problems that occurred after, and down the road. I feel the need to know and search more about this and be at ease in my mind and heart and spirit for myself and my wife of this procedure. So any thing that can be passed on this surgery will be much appreciated and taken with much focus on pre/post surgery. And I am also a bariatric person out 13 years from day one. hi there and welcome. since your in the states and I am in Australia I can't help ya on the hospital routine. here it a wait game, albeit they are not tardy when they do the op. and I am sure for you too. usually a pre op apt is made, telling you all the basics. and your chances of good recovery and post surgery I did an intensive cardiac rehab program. my stuff is different, I had a double by-pass. still it's ya ticker. my healing time was not that bad, except for the pain of my sternum reknitting, and my doc is a no pain med man, and it was brutal. but I actually healed much faster without them. extremely high pain tolerance, bugger. others will pop in soon, can be slow here. I am just meeting and greeting and trying to keep a little flow. heaps of info will be given to you, if they don't it would be remiss of them. wishing you all the best. advize your cardiologist of your concerns and he/she will break it down for you two. keep strong and welcome.
