concerned about chest pains...

So I have been having chest pains and a few weeks ago went to the er and they just diagnosed me with chest wall pain my ekg was fine and everything...problem is it has come back and i have shortness of breath and it is just like tight and pressure...now my history is complicated I do have GERD but am on medication for that and haven't had issues with that in a long time, i also suffer from anxiety but take 4 1mg clonopin a day so i feel that is under control and the chest pain is not at any time when i am anxious about anything really...and back to history i have had an eating disorder 22 years and i know that can cause heart problems...so i am deciding if i should maybe see a cardiologist and get further testing or get an endoscopy to check on GERD issues i know that is not heart but just throwing that in there...just any advice i am kind of scared...

Hi Charmed3, first, welcome to HealingWell and I'm sorry you're going through this. I'm sure it's frightening. There is no moderator in the Heart Forum unfortunately but some members who have knowledge of heart problems sometimes post and can offer advice. If I were you, I would indeed see a cardiologist. If you have copies of any tests like the EKG from the ER, take them with you and explain everything that you wrote here.

Some medications, some other issues like anxiety and several other things can cause pains, twinges or discomfort in the chest and the only way to find out what's going on is to see a specialist. I think this is the only way you will be able to feel assured about your health. You have already been to the ER so your insurance has that on record.

Hi Charmed & welcome to Healing Well. I agree with Lanie, a consult with a cardiologist should be considered. An EKG is one of those tests that many times unless an incident is taking place it will not be picked up. I am in no way suggesting that you have something going on with your heart either. It is always best to be safe.

At least by seeing a cardio & all checks out your mind will be at ease. There are hundreds & hundreds of different things that can cause chest pain.

Thank you for the support i think i will call my regular doctor to get maybe a referral to a cardiologist and see what is going on...have been having chest pain bad today i know it can be a million things but i just want to get everything checked out. so to be more calm about it i am sure it is not helping my anxiety any...

Exactly, please follow up with your regular doctor. Many different things can cause chest pains and only doctors and certain diagnostic tests and determine what's causing them. Best of luck!

GERD can do funny things to the vagus nerve. And when you say shortness of breath, do mean you're winded, or it feels like you're trying to breathe in through a straw. The latter is what I used to get with GERD.

yeah, can be a bunch of things. agree, try and not stress, will just raise ya bp and get ya ticker racing causing anxiety. keep posting. as stated gerd stuff and heart tend to mimick a bit.
