Fourth Ablation

Its good to hear from you Lil, but sorry your news isn't good and that you have to have a 4th ablation!  Bless your heart!  I will say a BIG prayer for you and hope this ablation is a total success!  You sure deserve to be free of this problem!    Let us know how it goes!  Hugs, Pat

Oh shoot, sorry you have to miss the Christmas Mass especially since it is your class doing it!  Maybe someone will video tape it!  It is good timing though, that your ablation will be during the Christmas break!  Thank goodness your waiting isn't too much longer now.  I know you must dread the idea of a pacemaker but in my travels to the different boards and especially one just for arrythmias, many people have them and they aren't too bad at all and have a good success rate of helping control the heart rhythm!  For some they have even saved their lives!  Your still in my prayers and we will be anxious to hear how your ablation goes Wed.!  Big Hug, Pat

Already out of the hospital!! YAY!! My doc did something a little different this time. He told my husband about it and then my hubby tried to explain it to me...I'm not sure I understand it. My doc said he used a catheter that had gel at the end. That filled in any crevices adn then he burned all that. My head is still swimming from beind sedated. I'm on phenergran right now...very nauseous. I'm also quite sore in my chest and leg.

But I'm home! So far so good! No racing yet.

Lily, I am not a doctor,…. and while I respect what doctors are trying to do....4 ablations??? ...bet you are starting to be concerned ...right?

Reason for my concern:
My oldest daughter (18 years, very thin, “Normal” Range "Blood Sugar" 70's..) had "spells" of very high heart rates 150-220/minute for 10 seconds to 2 minutes. At first we thought they were seizures. It was sort of obvious, but by the time we got to the Dr. they were gone..."PSVT" was finally diagnosed after we went several time and waited for a repeat event. We were all scared....read everything I could get my hands on (typical for a child walefare threatening issues)...cardiologists suggested ablation...found a PSVT message board site....very scary stuff!!. Finally she had an ablation and some slight minor complications...and later catheterization issues (!! Now my highest level reservation!!). They mapped and ablated a single site. But post ablation, it was apparent that this also seemed to now have different, equally distressing side effects...new patterns of trauma....we were pitched on a second ablations, but now were much more skeptical....and my daughter said she was beginning to feel more like an experimental guinea pig than patient.
I went to a local Medical school and approached several friends I had worked with years ago about this. I got many points of view and I managed to speak with a couple of teaching Cardiologists, picked the one that seemed the least defensive and made a second opinion appointment. I told him up front that I would NEVER use him as an active Cardiologist and I only wanted his Personal Professional opinion of the current status and that I needed several alternate approaches to "fix" or help stabilize this. He seemed a little surprised. I offered to sign a waiver to hold him free from any liability from this consultation, to try to insure his openness.
I was very surprised at the results. My daughter and I both met with him and he let us know things I'm sure I never would have discovered any other way. It also confirmed some of our concerns and diffused other misconceptions. It only cost $250 cash ( I was surprised). We found that younger people frequently grow out of this PSVT cycle (I personally think it was the Barbie Diet Syndrome-anorexia). Also, he suggested a Female Cardiologist that he was familiar with that treated primarily women with similar histories, generally with a very careful non-invasive short term medical treatments, some what considered (by the this lady cardio) as experimental.
We rejected the second ablation and tried this female Cardiologist. After two years we could see he symptoms slowly subside (extra pace maker or not). We convinced her (slowly!!) she didn't need to be Barbie too...whichever worked the PSVT and the post-ablation cardio trauma issues are very rare now (as apposed to several times an hour!! and per day!). We will monitor this situation a suppose as long as we are "still breathing", right?!
I have since been looking for a general population study to see "how many people in the general population have these Cardio-irregularities" and pursuing my own personal quest to find what foods or additives cause these issues commonly!

Oh my goodness Lil, I hope and pray that this is something that will get better as your heart heals!  You've been through so much and I know you must be very disappointed again.  I've heard of the cryo ablation but haven't known too many people that have had it to tell us how it was for them.  Take it real easy and I hope you feel well enough to work Tuesday.  Your still in my prayers Lil.  Hugs, Pat

Lil, I'm so sorry I'm just now responding to your last post.  I have had company and haven't been able to check in here!  Bless your heart, I was hoping this last ablation was going to fix you up at last!  Keeping you in my prayers and let us know the monitor results!  Hopefully this new problem is just the heart needing time to heal from the last ablation and the docs can give you a med to control it so you don't have those dizzy spells!  Big hug and hang in there dear friend!  Pat
