Hi everyone - I am a 65 yr old female with an appointment for an echo next week. I am so nervous and anxious that I'm having sleepless nights over this. When I had a physical at age 33 my dr told me I had a heart murmur and sent me for an echo - nothing found. At age 40 and 5 months pregnant my dr listened to my heart during physical again and sent me for another echo due to loud sound and echo was normal. Now at latest physical he is sending me again for a third echo. I am so stressed out and anxious about this it is affecting me big time. I have no symptoms of any kind (palpitations, chest pain, fluttering etc). Is it possible to just have this "innocent" murmur ones whole life without it being something else? The older I get the more anxious I am becoming. Anyone go for these echos with long time murmurs and they find nothing significant? Thanks for listening.

Take a deep breath, you have absolutely no indication from your doctor that there is something else is going on. I would think that this echo is just continued monitoring of a heart murmur that they discovered over 30 years ago. I've had many echos over the years, and none have shown anything significant, but they are important at ruling potential medical issues out.

Thanks for your reply. It's terrible having health anxiety and the dr ordering different tests for you. I know they're a necessity but very nerve racking for me. Just going to the dr appt is pretty anxiety filled. I appreciate your response.

Lin, I am with Sharon you will do just fine. I have echos done yearly & have been since I was 28 & I am now 64 & still here. Calm yourself down & you will be fine.

Yep, it's more common for your murmur to be nothing than something.
