Past heart attack?

Hi all smile

Last Friday I went to see my doctor. I had some odd symptoms going on. Anyway she preformed an EKG on me. When she returned to the room she explained that I have had a past heart attack. She is now sending me for a stress test and echo.

Question that I have is, could the EKG be wrong? I had an EKG and echo about 3 years ago due to splinter hemorrhages and everything was fine. She did review the old EKG as well.

Hi Mom of 2, it really is difficult to say the EKG was wrong, there could be some variances as to possibly the person that did the test, maybe, but I just don't know. There are different types of heart attacks. My brother had what was called a silent heart attack & never knew it. All the dr could say was it was an old one. When he turned 50 his PCP referred him to a cardiologist for an evaluation. He had a long history of high BP. They did a stress test, echo & heart cath. His was discovered on the heart cath.

Four years ago I was in the hospital & they checked my cardiac enzymes which showed I had a mild heart attack but the age was unknown. I have a long history of high BP too. I was not put on any medications because of the heart attack, just my usual BP meds. Your dr is doing her job the right way by having you checked to make sure nothing is going on.

Try not to let this stress you out, I know it is scary but hang in there.

I just emailed her to ask if I could have another EKG to see if there is any difference between the two. If it shows the same, then I will go for the stress test and echo.

I did a little research and found there are a lot of false positives and false negatives on EKGs. So it makes one wonder. I think I'm in denial over the possibility of a past heart attack.

I am in exactly the same boat. In fact, my post is right below yours. I have had no pain etc, no symptoms, but had an EKG for other reasons related to an aortic aneurysm, which I do have.

The EKG said I had a Septal Mydocardial Infarction, but the other tests I had showed no sign of my heart working poorly. My echocardiogram and my heart catheter and angiogram showed a great, fully functioning heart, save for the aortic aneurysm and bicuspid aortic valve.

My cardiologist never even mentioned it to me, so either it wasn't important after seeing the angiogram (which he did immediately after the EKG) or it was a minor enough heart attack that it didn't do much damage at all.

Either way, it scared the wits out of me.

Yes, I read your post. I tied to get another EKG done, but DR. wants more testing to be sure. I'm not trilled but I understand. The whole thing scared me for the first few days. Now, I'm just going through the motions for resolution. I'm at high risk for heart issues, so maybe having the testing is a good thing.

I hope everything turns out well for your aneurysmsmile Are they going to fix it?

Mom, the two tests she is ordering are easy & nothing painful. The echo is similar to an ultrasound & I always like to watch on the screen & hear the noises when the tech turns on the sound. It reminds me of how an old washing machine use to sound, lol.

Your dr is doing the right thing by you. Good luck with your testing. Take care.

I will go for the testing as advised, especially after today, lots of discomfort. Most likely psychosomatic.
