Good morning, I'm very new here in hoping to gain some knowledge and possibly some answers. I recently went to the cardiologist just do have a checkup because I just turned 43 and heart disease is prominent in my family. Doctor ordered echocardiogram and stress test. Stress test came back excellent as well as my blood pressure. But the echocardiogram showed a minor leak in the mitral and moderate to severe in the aortic valve. I have absolutely no symptoms, I'm very active and workout 3 days a week. I'm a 43 year old male white. I was told when I was in my teens that I had a heart murmur and that was the last I heard of it until now. My doctor prescribed 5 mg of amlodipine daily to keep this in check and hopefully out of the hands of a surgeon. My questions are could I have had this my entire life at this rate? Also my ejection fraction is 68% which he explained was very good. I'm just super scared. I do not know if this is something I've had all along and I'm just making myself more nervous thinking about
it. I'm also nervous about
taking the medication because I try to keep anything I put in my body unnatural to a minimum. Part of me says this will be my demise part of me says it can be fixed in the future if need be but this is all very new to me and I have a million questions shooting through my head because I have a beautiful family that depends on me. I would love to have some feedback from others that have been in this situation that can offer me some insight.
Thank you!
