2 Leaking Valves- Please advise!! Very Nervous

Good morning, I'm very new here in hoping to gain some knowledge and possibly some answers. I recently went to the cardiologist just do have a checkup because I just turned 43 and heart disease is prominent in my family. Doctor ordered echocardiogram and stress test. Stress test came back excellent as well as my blood pressure. But the echocardiogram showed a minor leak in the mitral and moderate to severe in the aortic valve. I have absolutely no symptoms, I'm very active and workout 3 days a week. I'm a 43 year old male white. I was told when I was in my teens that I had a heart murmur and that was the last I heard of it until now. My doctor prescribed 5 mg of amlodipine daily to keep this in check and hopefully out of the hands of a surgeon. My questions are could I have had this my entire life at this rate? Also my ejection fraction is 68% which he explained was very good. I'm just super scared. I do not know if this is something I've had all along and I'm just making myself more nervous thinking about it. I'm also nervous about taking the medication because I try to keep anything I put in my body unnatural to a minimum. Part of me says this will be my demise part of me says it can be fixed in the future if need be but this is all very new to me and I have a million questions shooting through my head because I have a beautiful family that depends on me. I would love to have some feedback from others that have been in this situation that can offer me some insight.

I am a little confused on the aortic moderate to severe. Do you have a copy of the echo report, if not you need to obtain a copy of it. The minor mitral valve is not something to be concerned with. Was it the cardiologist that gave you all of these results & rx'd the BP med? If it were me, I would take the medication, you are on a small dose & should not have any issues. This is

I too come from the bad gene pool & have been on 3 BP meds since I was 28 & am now 64. My aortic valve (moderate regurg) has been an issue for a long time. A few years ago the mitral valve started leaking. I am still in the watch mode after all of these years. With some people they can have a murmur at a very young age & never have an issue. Worrying over what if & what caused it will do you no good. My murmur is heard loud & clear when they listen to my heart.

My suggestion is to calm yourself down. Getting anxious about this can cause your BP to go through the roof. I would make a list of questions up & schedule another appt with the cardiologist & let him give you answers. I do suggest that you concentrate on the now things, not a murmur that was detected in your teens.

Thank you for your response. Yes I do have the echo results as well as the results of my stress test. What would you be looking for on the echo to give you some insight?

My Doctor didnt seem very conserned.
Last October i had i slight discomfort in my left chest as well as the occasional palpitation. He said he felt neither one had anything to do with the regurgitation. My primary doctor seems to think it may be costochondritis. But I can't help but worry that discomfort slightly to the left side of my chest it's coming from my heart.
I have no pain while I'm working out. And sometimes it seems like the discomfort goes away after I eat something? I'm just completely confused over at all. Also the discomfort I do feel in my chest seems to go straight through to between my lower shoulder blades so I don't know if there's any correlation. I would just like to find someone that has some kinde of experience similar to mine. Doctor said it may not progressed to the point of surgery for 5 or10 or even twenty years?
He said it may have been like this my entire life but he doesn't know because I wasn't in his care then. So obviously this fills my head with questions. I just feel like one day I'm going to leave for work and just drop dead somewhere. I know it sounds crazy but that's the way the human mind works and I can't seem to get over it.

moderate regurg as said by straydog is common. costo is common. esp left side. yeah, schedule another appt with cardiologist. you are not going to drop dead. if you were in danger you'd be in an ambo straight to hospital mate!!! de-stress, yes makes costo worse. and it helps with bp as well, meditation, chill music, whatever.

Let me put it this way, if the cardiologist thought for one second that you were at any risk he would have acted immediately. The fact that you are physically fit, not overweight, have a decent diet& not exhibiting symptoms that would cause alarm, you shouldn't either. Mine has been in the monitoring stage since late 20's & I have not croaked yet. Never slowed me down for a minute. The only time I thought about it was when I went in for my yearly testing. What will get to you is this fear, worry & anxiety. You don't need that, nor does your family. If the costo pops up again, try a moist heating pad on your chest.

Again, make a list of reasonable questions & see the cardiologist. But, do not attempt to get him to answer questions he cannot possibly answer. Keep us posted & enjoy the holiday weekend.

i have been relaxing myself more & i feel more at ease.
your 100% right the anxiety is my biggest problem but im working on it.

I am wondering how you are making out. I will say that I think it is better to have it leaking a little than to have stenosis. They could actually probably fix a leaker. It would be heart surgery but these surgeries are routine anymore. What I am saying that worse case scenario, if you have to have an operation, you will be fine. I had an aortic valve replaced in 2012 and I still run and lift and do everything I have wanted to do with no restrictions. In fact I did a brake job about 3 to 4 weeks after surgery. Stay healthy and exercise and you will always be ready for anything they can throw at you.
