Hello all,

New to the forum so be gentle smile

I'm having the PFO Closure op in a few weeks (London, UK). Just wondering if there are any on here that can share their experience? I've seen a few threads already, but they're all quite old.

I'm having it due to a cryptic stroke that knocked me for six, post surgery for cancer.

Hi rob, I wanted to pop on & let you know you are not being ignored. This is a very slow forum that does not have regular posters in it. Like you said what you found in the archives is really outdated.

I don't quite understand why, simply on the basis of a cryptogenic stroke, you opted (or were advised to opt) for a PFO closure. Medication (plavix or aspirin) is an option. No studies (and I was in one for six years following a cryptogenic stroke) have shown any significant benefit from closure via device over medication. Just wondering.

I think the latest news (September 2017) on PFO closure vs. medication therapy is leaning toward closure for a very specific group of patients.
