I was 14 then. I woke up one morning with severe chest pain. It felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest or a boa constrictor was wrapping itself around my torso (I must like animals a lot). I couldn't breathe and I was writhing in agony on my bed. Eventually I ran to the bathroom which was a few steps away and did a motion as if I had to throw up, but nothing came out of course. My only illness before then was those severe menstrual cramps that you have when you first start getting your period, so I think that's why I went to the bathroom. Wasn't sure what was going on, though I didn't feel abdominal cramps. Might have felt slightly nauseous; don't remember. I was getting dizzy and seeing red dots in front of my eyes, near fainting, so I went back to my bed and continued to just try to wait out the pain. I felt helpless and like I was going to die. I couldn't say anything. I'm not sure if my dizziness went away when I was on the bed. I don't remember. I know it took another minute or so before the pain subsided. All in all it lasted maybe 2-3 minutes. I'm still wondering what happened to me. My mom wanted me to go to the ER but I talked her out of it. I regret it. Eventually I saw my crappy pediatrician that day who ran an EKG but found no abnormalities apparently, though I doubt she has good eyesight anyway. The attack only lasted a few minutes so I doubt any serious damage would have happened, not enough to come out on an EKG.
Now before you go writing this of as a panic attack, I can tell you straight off that it wasn't. I've had Grave's Disease (hyperthyroidism) for years and I know ALL about having a racing heart, palpitations, cold sweats, etc. And I did have a couple of panic attacks, one that was clearcut a couple years later where I actually did faint in front of an audience. There is a big difference from feeling your heart beating fast in your chest and a crushing feeling on it. I just want to know what might have happened to me.
