Maze Procedure

Has anyone here heard of the maze procedure and has anyone had it done?  if so, what meds did you have to take pre and post procedure? 

Because of my many medical allergies the drs are looking at non to low invasive surgical remedies for my psvt and a-fib.  the maze procedure is intriguing but im fairly certain that i would need to undergo pre and post meds.  the procedure involves some cutting of the cardiac muscle so i am sure i would, at the very least, have to take coumadin or hep.  and im thinking that wont be an option with me. 

anyway, if youve heard of it or had it done, please share your knowledge with me.

I have never heard of this before I read it from you, Cheryl. I wish I had some information to share with you. I'm assuming you have already done some searches on the internet. You are most likely looking for personal experience. Please let us know how you are doing.

The Maze procedure is done by cardiothoracic surgeons who have to open the heart and burn parts of it to create "mazes" in the upper atrium to stop the atrial extra beats. This is not really a minimally invasive surgery.

However, there is a procedure by electrophysiologist called RF ablation, where they do a similar thing--just without complete surgery. Little less risky than a Maze, but not as effective.
