Hello All,

My name is Bill (50 yr old male), and I was scanning the web for information on taking Plavix, and when to quit for a few days before Oral Surgery. Well I found this site, so I had to Join and post!

First of all I had a Heart Attack on Feb,29 2004, yep leep day..Well, two stents later,

I am on Plavix, and Asprin along with Toprol and Zokor. Yesterday I had a crown fall off, and called the Doc, he said quit taking plavix 5 days before the Oral surgery and start

back on it the day after. And I allways double check him with a little research, just me

I guess. I have learned a lot the last two years, heck I even like healthy food and the treadmill now... :-)    Has anyone else run into post stent surgery? Did you have to quit plavix and or Asprin? If so how long? Currious minds must know!

Also, I would be glad to help anyone with a little support while going through a Heart

Attack...just write me..

Most people are not on plavix that long post stenting--the best trial for Plavix looked at at least 3 months, but up to a year was beneficial. One of the fears with these new drug eluting stents is that they may slow the "endothelialization" of the stents -- which is the process where the body grows tissue over the stent. Without this endothelialization, there is increased risk of stent thrombosis--the stent acutely clotting off, and causing a heart attack. However, I doubt after 2 years that your stents have not endothelialized, so you could probably go off plavix for 5 days safely--and then talk to your cardiologist on why he has continued you on plavix.
