Heart valves that have fronds?

After suffering a mini-stroke, doctors tracked the problem down to ‘fronds’ or growths that exist on the surface of two of my heart valves. Over time, the fronds trap and accumulate blood or particles and later release them as blood clots. I was told this condition is very rare…does it have a name??

Technically there isn’t one yet, but it is day one after being alerted to this. Doctors have prescribed blood thinners to reduce damage from further clots and recommended non-vigorous but active exercise. One general practice doctor recalls seeing it once, the neurologist and cardiologist didn’t recall it at all. Definitely had it since birth but this is first time that I’ve been alerted to it or experienced any sort of symptoms. (I am 43)

Shyguy, I do hope that you will stay under the care of a cardiologist for all treatment, this is not something a general practice dr or neurologist should be handling, this is out of their realm. Who told you that you would be injecting blood thinners twice a day? I am guessing you do not live in the US?

Myself & my husband have had blood clots in the past, my husband is on oral blood thinners & has his blood checked one a month to make sure his blood is not too thick or too thin. I had a blood clot from my leg that hit my lung, the drs installed a device like a little umbrella to hopefully catch any future blood clots. At the time I was having balance issues & they decided not to put me on oral blood thinners.

I don't know where you live but here we have access to numerous oral form blood thinners.
