PVC'S Driving me crazy

I was Diagnosed with PVC's almost a year ago. They started all the sudden while I was eating dinner and watching everybody loves Raymond. I love that show. I have never been the same since. For most of this time I maybe had 1 or 2 that I noticed A week. But the last 3 days They have been non stop. I been to the ER and today my cardio. I was just put on Toporol XL. How long does this pill take to start being effective. I am having pvc's right now as I type. It is scaring the crap out of me! I am a 31 year old male. It has really affected my life. I am grumpy all the time worrying aout these. Wondering If I will die the next PVC. It's easier for someone to say It's ok and "Normal" But most of those people don't have these. Some words of encouragement will be highly appreciated. Any advice is also helpfull, THANKS! VIEW IMAGE

Hi Vincent,  Welcome to Healing Well forum.  We are glad to have you.

I personally don't have any experience with PVC's, I have a pacemaker for bradycardia and sick sinus syndrome so I have slow heart rate.  However, I can sympathize with your being scared of what could happen.  The Toprol should help with this, but you can always call your pharmacist and ask them how long it would take for the medication to reach it therapeutic level. I have no idea, and couldnt find it on-line for you (sorry!) hopefully someone else will be able to answer this better than I.  

I like Everybody Loves Raymond too.  I always have to watch it, that's funny.  tongue

Hi Vincent. I am a 42yr old female with PVC and other benign arrhythmias. I've had them for over 5 years.They are annoying and can be so scary but I'm still here. :-) I learned biofeedback to try to calm and shorten runs of PSVT, a type of tachy. I believe it helps with all kinds of things(the biofeeedback). The premature heart beats (pacs and pvcs) seem to come and go in cycles for me .What I mean is somedays I might feel 1 or 2 or 12 or 20. Then other days it is 12 hours of thumpity, thump, thump, thump! (HATE IT) The little butterfly flicks in my chest are bad enough, but the big bunny thumps right in the center above my stomach make me feel a bit naseous. sad   You gotta laugh and tell yourself over and over and over, "It's not gonna kill me!" Then try to distract yourself. I know-easier for me to say than you to do. I do better some days than others. It helps to hear about others experiences. It makes me feel better and not be so scared.There are also other places online where people share these kinds of experiences like heartcenter online. It has a community just for arrhythmia patients. Also the Cleveland Clinic Heart Center's The Heart Forum where people posts questions and a doctor replies. Then people can post replies and experiences-lots and LOTS of PVC questions and experiences. You will be surprised how many people experience these things and for how long and they are all still here. It is comforting! Go there and look through the PVC posts. You will truly feel better! yeah Of course there is this site where people are so supportive and kind!!!!!

Welcome Vincent and Hopes. I also have many arrhythmias one is pvc's. I wish i could tell you the fear goes away, but for me it's been 5 years and it still scares the blank out of me at times. You learn to live with it. Living for me is a gift with all my problems, and these daily arrhythmias drive me crazy at times, but life go's on for me for now and that alone makes me happy. I'll keep you in my prayers. DELTA

Thanks everyone for the welcome and words of encouragement. Its so hard to learn to live with your heart thumping and flipping. I really hope this toprol xl works. So far it hasnt done anything. I took it for the first time last night. I only took a half a tab. The dr said I could start with half if I wanted too. I think tonight I will go ahead and take the 25mg. I want these things to stop. 1 or 2 a day would be ok, but this constant thumping is terrifiying!

Hi Vince,

I have heart palpitations a lot too.  I actually skip beats and can feel my heart "stopping".  I know how scary the feeling is.  I am on Metoprolol (I think it is he same med you are taking except I think yours is extended release).  Anyway I am up to 75-100 mg a day to keep my palpitations under control.  I have been taking it for at least 3 years. (See my previous post under Cardiologist Appointment.

I hope this kicks in for you soon.  I know how frustrating medicine can be.

Vincent,

first off, I know they are uncomfortable and annoying, but be reassured, they are not life-threatening.

Secondly, I agree with the beta-blocker, if you can tolerate it. Probably the best treatment.

Lastly, need to stop ALL caffeine--even decaff coffee and chocolate. Can take a while after the caffeine is gone (even 3 months) for its effects to be gone. Also, try over the counter magnesium supplements. Look in this forum under pvcs before (appears to be a common problem) for a list of different mag supplements.
