Sotatol--Anyone taking this drug? If so any problems?

I had a heart attack in 1996, no problems after that until a regular checkup indicated quite a bit of blockage and had a quintuple by pass in December 2007. That led to irrgular heartbeat and installation of a defribillator in March 2007.

Five shocks since then, all A fib, the device was installed for V-fib, so it has been adjusted twice.

Now I am to be placed on Sotalol AF to complement the device and reduce the postential for additional inappropriate shocks.

I am looking for people with Sotalol experience, particularly if they also have a defribillator.

 

I had a pacemaker/defib. implanted october, 2006. I was taking coreg, toperal, and lisonapril. sorry for the poor spelling. I got stung twice not long after the implant. I had to be hospitalized (for monitoring) in jan. 2007 to get off the toperal and start the betapace, (sotalol/generic name) The way I understood it, it helps the heart maintain a steady beat. I suffered no side effects and I recently found out my heart is beating on it's own, without pacemaker help. My condition is different than yours. I have no artery blockage whatsoever. I have a thing called cardiomyopathy. It has been over a year since my heart failed. My EF was down to 10% last june. With a bi-vad implant for a month, a lot of drugs that I can't remember, My EF is holding steady around 50%. I was denied a transplant, and was a cardiac ginnie-pig. I have to take sotalol for the rest of my life. It is not a low cost drug. I wish you the best. Being concerned is OK. Worrying and stress only leads to bad things
