Heart attack/heart failure symptoms? Please help!

Hi, I am posting because I need help. This entire week, I have had some bad chest pain since Tuesday night at work right in the center of my chest. Finally, yesterday morning, it got real bad and it hurt to the point where I was numb in my left arm and ankles and couldn't breathe as normally as I do, so I went to the ER thinking I was having a heart attack. EKG came back perfect, chest x-ray showed nothing, stress EKG was perfect. Keep in mind, I'm 25 years old, 5'5", 120 lbs. I just had a physical done a month ago and blood pressure is normal (100/60), cholesterol is perfect. I have the usual severe chest pains in the center and on my left side, but the symptoms that scare me are the pain/numbness down my left arm and numbness in my arm and both ankles. This is starting to scare me! My left arm and both ankles feel like they're falling asleep, even when I'm just sitting down. If the ER ruled out the possibility of a heart attack, what could be causing my heart/chest pain with the numbness? Could it be heart failure? I'm really confused and I'm really scared!

Hi: I'm new here but post on Fibromyalgia forum. We Fibromites have some of that exact centre of the chest pain that is attributable to Costochondritis. It has to do with the ligaments which connect the ribs to the sternim. You might want to read some of the Fibro posts, and or Google it. I have had a half dozen such attacks, I take aspirin. Generally it will settle down in a couple hours.

Hi...but with any type of chest pain (particularly numbness in your legs/arms), I would be cautious and get a second opinion.  Maybe see a cardiologist for a work-up.  It's never too early to start!

Hello... I am new to this forum.....but I read on the crohns forum all the time as I do have crohns.

A couple months ago I was having a problem with my arms and legs feeling like they were going to sleep when I would be laying or sitting. I kind of ignored it....then one night I started feeling like my throat was trying to swell so I went to the er and the doctor said he knew something was going on but he couldn't find it.....and right before they were to discharge me, he decided to do an ultrasound on my neck....and sure enough I had a bloodclot in the jugular vein and some clots in the vena cava. I ended up having to have three stents put in.

So my point is that if you feel something is wrong do not hesitate to check it checked out.....even though I didn't feel that bad I was in a dangerous situation according to my doctor.

I hope that you are feeling better and can find something out soon.

Around where I live the ER uses a blood test for cardiac enzymes to indicate a heart attack.

I was having the same problems when I went into the ER, they drew blood and sure enough cardiac enzymes tested positive for heart damage. They kept me over night and the next morning shot the contrast up my leg...came back that 3 arteries were 99% blocked and the 4th was 60% blocked. 2 days later I had a quad. bypass! I am 33 yrs old! You should get blood tested!

I have been in ICU three times for heart pain and arrysthmias (spell).  They also said my heart was fine.  I was putted on medication for the angina.  My diagnosis unstable angina.  They still don't know what is causing it.  I am taking Isosorbide 60mg  1 everyday, feel much better.  Also a year ago they found blockages in the arteries in my legs.  I believe the blockages are not higher than 30 to 40%.  However, I had two angiograms done of the heart.  The first time the Dr. told me that one of the blockages was 80% but was in a hard place to put a stent.  They went back in to try to  rotter rutter the artery and make the blockage below 50%, but he said that the blockage was now 40% and not 80% as he had previously noted.  So he just stopped right there and got out without touching anything.  How is that possible?  how did the percentage changed in two weeks.  I was pussled but at the same time relieved!!! 

Please have it checked, do not play with this type of symptoms!!!

Cardiac enzymes arent always present yet when you have labs drawn in the ER. Just because an EKG comes back "normal" does not rule out an MI.  My suggestion would be to go to the nearest hospital with a cath lab, just to err on the side of caution. 

The pain may not be cardiac related, do you work at a desk/computer for long periods?
