I had an ekg done last week and the results came back as abnormal. They told me my p waves were peaked rather than rounded and it could indicate right atrial enlargement.
Unfortunately my regular Dr. is on vacation and I spoke to one of his partners. She didn't seem too worried, but is sending me for an echo.
I've been going through perimenopause and have been extremely anxious over the last few years and sometimes suffer from panic attacks.
I've read that other things can cause the peaked p waves including 'increased sympathetic tone' (I believe anxiety is part of that).
I also had an Oral Glucose test at the same time. I had fasted for 12 hrs and then had to drink a sugary cold drink. She did the ekg within minutes of me drinking it. Could that have affected the ekg?
I also had a holter done about 3 1/2 years ago and it came back normal except for some pvc's and sinus tachacardia, which I know can be normal when stressed.
I had also had a ekg done in the hospital a couple of days before the holter. Would they have checked for the p wave in the hospital? Sorry for all the questions, but this has come out of the blue for me. I was sure out of all the tests I had that day the ekg was the one thing I wouldn't have to worry about. Thanks for any information.
