As an adult in my late 20s I have had to deal with this audible heartbeat through college and now work. During college my doctors just thought it was an anxiety issue which I think was actually a consequence of the heart issues. Regarding the sounds it seems to be audible around me 360 degrees, I would say at least a meter away, so my upstairs neighbors would hear it, and others I share walls with on the same floor and below (like they can hear it through the walls as crazy as that sounds, its really quite depressing but I try to be as normal as possible and ignore it.) So earlier this year I had an echo with bubble study and the following discovered: I have 3 valves with so called "trivial" regurgitation (mitral, tricuspid, and pulmonic. I feel like people are gaslighting me about being able to hear it but it has followed me through 3 state moves... my current cardiologist which discovered these regurgitations and in turn a pfo as well, said its entirely within normal range and surgery isn't necessary he said just to be aware and monitor it. I hate it though, I just dislike being treated differently for a health issue I have absolutely no control over. Even with beta blockers its still audible... and it seems to effect nearby material items too like fans vibrate in sync to it and electronics hum if its quiet enough. I also have to have whitenoise on to sleep just for my own peace of mind and sanity. It seems to pulse throughout my circulatory system too. I'd rather get a new heart or surgery as scary as it sounds then have to deal with this audible annoyance throughout life...
